LUCENA CITY, Quezon - The Food Innovators RIC of San Antonio, Quezon (FIRICSAQ) received a grant to improve their processing and production of "suman sa lihiya."
A Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) was signed between Maria Esperanza Jawili, Provincial Director of Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Quezon and Angela Lumar, President of FIRICSAQ at Lucena City on June 3, 2024.
The project, titled "Upgrading of Processes and Product of Food Innovators RIC of San Antonio, Quezon Through Acquisition of S&T Processing Equipment," will provide FIRICSAQ with financial assistance to purchase new equipment that utilizes science and technology for food processing.
This initiative is expected to allow FIRICSAQ to upgrade their processing methods, leading to improved quality of their "suman sa lihiya" products. FIRICSAQ, with the continued support of the Local Government Unit (LGU) of San Antonio, aims to acquire the new equipment within one year of receiving the funds.
During the signing ceremony, Aldwin Royena, Science Research Specialist II, explained the terms and conditions of the project, which falls under the Grant-In-Aid Community Based Project (GIA-CBP) program. This DOST program is designed to fund science and technology projects that aim to improve the quality of life for Filipinos by fostering the development and application of new technologies.
