TAYABAS CITY, Quezon – Demonstrating their commitment to environmental conservation, government employees and various organizations gathered yesterday, June 25, 2024, for a "Tree Growing Activity" in the forestland of Brgy. Ibabang Palale, Tayabas City, in celebration of Philippine Arbor Day.
800 seedlings of native tree species, including Molave, Narra, Banai-banai, Batino, and Kalumpit, were planted by employees from the City Government of Tayabas, PENRO Quezon, CENRO Tayabas, TAPAT Kalikasan, Bureau of Fire Protection, Tayabas ECOSAVERS, DEPED Tayabas, and Sangguniang Barangay of Ibabang Palale.
Philippine Arbor Day, celebrated every June 25th worldwide, is a testament to the nation's dedication to enriching the environment. The celebration encourages everyone to participate in tree-planting and other nature-centric activities, reflecting the essence of the Latin word "arbor," meaning "tree."
Mayor Lovely Reynoso-Pontioso expressed her full support for such initiatives, emphasizing the importance of tree-planting in meeting the needs of Mother Nature and ensuring a sustainable future for the environment.
"We are not just planting trees; we are planting hope, life, and a better future for generations to come," said Mayor Reynoso-Pontioso. "It is our responsibility to nurture and protect our environment, and tree-planting is a significant step towards that goal."
She also highlighted the importance of community involvement in environmental conservation efforts. "This tree-planting activity is a testament to the unity and bayanihan spirit of the people of Tayabas. Together, we can make a positive impact on our environment and leave a lasting legacy for our children."
The Mayor's words resonated with the participants, inspiring them to continue their efforts in preserving and protecting the environment. The tree-planting activity was not just a celebration of Arbor Day but also a symbol of the city's commitment to environmental sustainability and a greener future.
