LUCENA CITY, Quezon - Brigada Eskwela is not just about cleaning schools, according to Gregorio Racelis, Principals IV of both General Nakar Secondary School and Gumaca National High School. It's an opportunity for parents, teachers, and ordinary citizens to work together to prepare schools for the upcoming academic year.

In an interview with Racelis on Kapihan sa PIA Quezon, a flagship media forum program of PIA Calabarzon and hosted by Ruel Orinday, PIA Quezon manager on July 24, 2024, he highlighted how Brigada Eskwela allows everyone to be active participants in their children's education by cleaning and repairing classrooms, tending to school gardens, and donating school supplies or teaching materials.

Beyond cleaning and repairs, Brigada Eskwela can also be a platform for promoting student discipline he explained, "It's a chance to instill the value of community service and environmental care in students. Safety measures can also be emphasized during this time, ensuring that the school environment is conducive to learning and free from hazards."

In addition to preparing the physical environment, teachers participate in professional development workshops and training sessions according to Racelis. This equips them with the latest skills and knowledge to deliver high-quality education to their students. Ultimately, this comprehensive strategy fosters the growth and development of both students and teachers.

Racelis encouraged all citizens to join Brigada Eskwela. He emphasized that every small contribution can make a difference in the lives of students and improve the quality of education in the Philippines. "We are incredibly grateful to the stakeholders who come together every year to make Brigada Eskwela a success," he said.

"Their willingness to give their time, effort, and resources is truly heartwarming. We would like to recognize each and every one of them for their invaluable contribution. We are also committed to being transparent with how these donations are used. Stakeholders will see exactly how their contributions are making a difference in our school." the principal added.

He also lauded the parents, teachers, and community members, "Brigada Eskwela wouldn't be possible without the dedication of our parents, teachers, and community members. We are so fortunate to have their unwavering support. Transparency is also important to us. We will be providing regular updates on how donations are being used to improve our school facilities and resources."

Building a strong partnership between schools and parents is crucial in disciplining students, Racelis emphasized. Brigada Eskwela can be a venue to establish open communication channels and collaborate on strategies to promote positive behavior and a culture of learning within the school environment.

Brigada Eskwela is a yearly program by the Department of Education (DepEd) that fosters collaboration between parents, teachers, and citizens to prepare schools for the new academic year. It typically takes place in the weeks leading up to the school opening.

This year's Brigada Eskwela carries the theme "Bayanihan para sa Paaralan" (Community Effort for Schools). The theme emphasizes the importance of teamwork and unity in improving Philippine education. Ordinary people can contribute their time, skills, and resources to help create a conducive learning environment for students.

Across Quezon province, local government units are joining forces to ensure schools are in tip-top shape for the new academic year. This teamwork benefits not just students, but fosters a stronger sense of community and shared responsibility for education throughout Quezon.

Those interested in participating in Brigada Eskwela can contact their local schools. Information can also be found online on the DepEd website or their social media pages. The success of Brigada Eskwela relies on the collective effort of the community to create conducive learning environments for students.
