LUCENA CITY, Quezon – Coast Guard Station Southern Quezon, in partnership with its operational units, the 540th Coast Guard Auxiliary Squadron, and the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) Quezon, conducted a comprehensive Cybersecurity Awareness Seminar and Philippine National Public Key Infrastructure (PNPKI) Orientation today.

The event, facilitated by Fidel Kyle Subeldia, Planning Assistant I Provincial Officer of DICT Quezon, aimed to enhance the digital security knowledge and skills of Coast Guard personnel and auxiliary members. Held at the DICT Quezon Provincial Office Building in Lucena City, the seminar provided attendees with essential information on safe online practices, data privacy, and the importance of safeguarding personal information in the digital age.

Commander Atansio Lucky Barba, of Coast Guard Station Southern Quezon, emphasized the significance of the training, stating, "In today's interconnected world, cybersecurity is paramount. This seminar empowers our personnel and auxiliary members to become cyber-savvy and protect themselves and the communities they serve from digital threats. The knowledge and tools acquired today will undoubtedly contribute to our overall mission effectiveness and ensure the security of our digital infrastructure."

The Commander further explained the importance of PNPKI in the Coast Guard's daily operations, "The adoption of PNPKI is a significant step towards modernizing our document authentication and validation processes. It not only streamlines our operations but also ensures the integrity and authenticity of our digital records."

A key highlight of the event was the introduction and hands-on training on the PNPKI system, a secure framework for creating and verifying digital signatures for electronic documents. Participants learned how to utilize PNPKI for secure digital transactions and communication, further enhancing their digital literacy and security.

"The PNPKI orientation and training equips our personnel with the necessary skills to navigate the digital landscape securely and efficiently. It is an essential tool in our ongoing commitment to innovation and excellence in service delivery," Barba added.

The seminar is one of the pre-anniversary activities leading up to the 17th Founding Anniversary of Coast Guard Station Southern Quezon. It exemplifies the station's unwavering dedication to upholding the highest standards of digital security and promoting awareness about the ever-evolving landscape of cyber threats.

"We are committed to providing our personnel and the communities we serve with the resources and knowledge necessary to navigate the digital world safely and confidently," added Barba. "This seminar is a testament to our ongoing efforts to stay ahead of the curve in cybersecurity and ensure the protection of our digital assets."

The collaborative effort between Coast Guard Station Southern Quezon, its auxiliary units, and DICT Quezon signifies a united front in addressing cybersecurity challenges and fostering a secure digital environment for all.
