ATIMONAN, Quezon - The fight against chronic diseases like diabetes, hypertension, and cardiovascular diseases (CVD) recently received a boost in Quezon Province's fourth district with the launch of "Healthy Quezon 4D: Drive, Diet, Deter, Detect." in Atimonan, Quezon.
A collaborative effort between 4th District Representative of Quezon Province Cong. Keith Micah Tan and the National Nutrition Council Calabarzon (NNC Calabarzon), the program aims to educate residents and promote healthy lifestyles to reduce the prevalence of these chronic conditions.
"Healthy Quezon 4D" focuses on empowering vulnerable populations, including children, youth, the elderly, individuals with pre-existing health conditions, and low-income families, to make informed choices about their well-being.
The program takes a multi-pronged approach. Educational sessions will be held on proper nutrition using the Pinggang Pinoy guide and the importance of breastfeeding. Additionally, the program discourages unhealthy habits like smoking, vaping, and excessive alcohol consumption. Early detection is another key focus, encouraging residents to prioritize regular checkups.
The launch event, attended by representatives from ten municipalities, highlighted the importance of community engagement. Local leaders emphasized the program's role in fostering a culture of health awareness across the district.
The launch featured a ribbon-cutting ceremony, a fun spin class to promote physical activity, and informative technical sessions led by NNC Calabarzon. Participants also learned practical tips for healthy meal prep through a cooking demonstration using recipes from the DOST-FNRI Menu Guide Calendar. A personalized nutrition counseling session for residents concluded the event, providing them with guidance on maintaining a healthy lifestyle.
This collaboration between the local government and NNC Calabarzon serves as a model for collective action to improve public health. "Healthy Quezon 4D" empowers residents and positions the fourth district for a healthier future.
