LUCENA CITY, Quezon - Chillin' Bros Team of Quezon Province were recognized by the Sanggunian Panlalawigan during its 106th session on Monday, July 22, 2024, for their outstanding achievement as first runner-up at the National Men's and Women's 3x3 Basketball Tournament organized by the Deaf Association of Quezon Province (DAQP) and KAPISANAN NG DEAF BASKETBOL NG PILIPINAS.

DAQP President Trivor Latayan commended the Chillin' Bros. for their exceptional talent and determination, especially considering the challenges they faced. "This victory, securing first runner-up, is a tremendous source of pride not only for the deaf community but for the entire province of Quezon," Latayan stated.

The tournament, held from July 12 to 14, featured exceptional athleticism and sportsmanship from teams hailing from various regions across the country. It transcended the boundaries of a simple competition, evolving into a joyous celebration of the unifying spirit of basketball.

Latayan shared that this achievement has inspired a surge of interest in basketball and other sports among deaf individuals in the province. The DAQP plans to hold similar events in the future to provide deaf athletes with more opportunities to compete and showcase their talents.

Chillin' Bros. Coach Neil Aro lauded his team's resilience throughout the competition, highlighting their ability to overcome challenges and achieve an impressive result. " Our team's hard work and dedication truly paid off, and we are excited to continue growing and improving in future competitions," Aro remarked. "It not only showcases the athletic capabilities of our athletes but also highlights the need for continued support and inclusivity for them in the sporting world."

The tournament featured a wide range of teams, including Team Sunshine Quezon, Fearevenge, Wildcat, Rainbow Warriors, Tribo Bicol, D'Cavite, D'Manila Suns, Basketball Quezon Province, Pampanga, Tagum City, Laguna, Suns Bulacan, Zambales, Elite Manila, Caloocan City, Spartans Quezon, Olongapo City, Batangas, Knight, and Hoops. This participation exemplifies the inclusive nature of basketball and the sense of unity it fosters among communities.

Fueled by the immense success of this year's event, the DAQP are already planning to host another exciting National Men's and Women's 3x3 Basketball Tournament next year. "The participation of various teams from different regions served as a powerful testament to the inclusivity of basketball and its ability to foster unity among communities," Latayan remarked.

He emphasized the importance of continuing to organize events like this to cultivate camaraderie and sportsmanship among players from all backgrounds. "The positive feedback and unwavering enthusiasm from the participants have fueled our passion to keep promoting basketball as a platform for fostering unity and camaraderie in the years to come," he added.
