TAGKAWAYAN, Quezon – The town of Tagkawayan has recent been awarded a Performance-Based Grant from the Philippine Multisectoral Nutrition Project (PMNP), a World Bank-funded initiative. The grant, totaling 2,829,491.90 pesos for the first tranche, was presented at the CALABARZON Region's Stakeholder's Forum in Makati City.
Tagkawayan is one of 24 towns in Quezon province selected to receive this funding, which aims to combat malnutrition, particularly stunting in children. Stunting, a condition caused by chronic undernutrition, can have lifelong impacts on physical and cognitive development.
The Municipal Nutrition Council, under the leadership of Tagkawayan Mayor Carlo Eleazar, is actively working to address this issue through various programs and policies. The grant will provide a significant boost to these efforts, allowing the town to expand its nutrition interventions and reach more children in need.
A delegation from Tagkawayan, including Mayor Eleazar, Municipal Health Officer Dr. Kevin Art Matundan, Municipal Nutrition Action Officer Ivan Go, Municipal Accountant Maria Judith Batalla, and Municipal Social Welfare and Development Officer Rhea Rodriguez, attended the forum to accept the grant.
"We are grateful for this grant and the opportunity it provides to improve the health and well-being of our children," said Mayor Eleazar. "We are committed to using these funds wisely and effectively to make a real difference in the lives of our community."
He also stressed the importance of collaboration and community involvement in ensuring the success of the projects funded by the grant. Additionally, Mayor Eleazar expressed his confidence in the dedication and expertise of the delegation members in implementing programs that will benefit children in need.
