TAYABAS CITY, Quezon - This city isn't just celebrating its 17th year of cityhood on July 13, 2024—it's unveiling its heart. Tayabas City Mayor Lovely Reynoso-Pontioso's voice cracks in her State of the City Address as she emotionally recalls, "There were moments, especially after losing my mother unexpectedly in 2022, where the weight of responsibility felt heavy. The former Mayor Ernida Agpi Reynoso had significantly contributed to laying the foundation for the city's progress, and her passing left a void." she said.

"But then," the Mayor continued, " I looked out at all of you, the Tayabense people. Your unwavering support and determination are my constant inspiration. From that moment, I vowed to continue my mother's legacy and make Tayabas an even better place to call home. Building on that foundation, I'm committed to what I call the "HEART" agenda."

Mayor Pontioso's State of the City Address wasn't just a recitation of accomplishments – it was a declaration of hope. While her speech outlined the city's progress over the past year, it also unveiled a her vision: the "HEART" agenda. Inspired by the community's resilience, this roadmap builds upon the legacy of her mother and propels the city forward, not just with achievements, but with a heartfelt commitment to making Tayabas an even better home.

The City Hall buzzed with a unique energy – not just celebratory, but with the hopeful hum of a rising city. Throughout the day, festivities unfolded, a vibrant tapestry showcasing Tayabas's rich history and culture. Yet, the anniversary's true essence wasn't the parades or programs. It was the connection forged between a leader and her people, a shared vision for a brighter future. Tayabas City's 17th anniversary transcended mere celebration; it became a powerful declaration of hope.

"This anniversary is a time to honor the unwavering spirit and dedication of the Tayabense people," said Pontioso. She also took a moment to elaborated on her program. "HEART stands for Health, Education and Economy, Agriculture, Resources, Tourism, Transportation and Technology, this comprehensive approach ensures that no aspect of our city's development is left behind." she explained.

Pontioso further elaborated on her ambitious "HEART" agenda, outlining a multi-pronged approach to the city's future. The agenda prioritizes residents' well-being with a focus on expanding access to quality healthcare and improving medical facilities under the "Health" pillar. "Education and Economy" focuses on investing in education and skills training to cultivate a competitive workforce and attract new businesses, fostering economic growth. Agricultural development and sustainable practices are emphasized under "Agriculture" to ensure food security.

The "HEART" agenda also emphasizes environmental protection and economic development. The "Resources" pillar highlights responsible management of natural resources to protect the environment and promote eco-tourism. "Tourism" aims to leverage Tayabas' cultural heritage and natural beauty to create jobs and boost the sector. "Transportation" focuses on improving infrastructure to connect communities, enhance mobility, and attract investment. Finally, "Technology" emphasizes embracing technology to improve government services, bridge the digital divide, and foster innovation.

However, Pontioso acknowledged the challenges ahead. "This is not just my agenda, it's our agenda," she declared. "The success of the HEART of Tayabas depends on your participation, your ideas, and your unwavering spirit. Together, we can build a city that is not only prosperous but also compassionate, sustainable, and a true beacon of hope for generations to come."

The city government acknowledged everyone who joined the festivities and celebrated Tayabas' journey as a thriving city. Throughout the day, the celebration came alive with a dazzling display of Tayabense culture. Local artists and performers took center stage, showcasing traditional dances, music, and theatrical presentations.
