Tiaong celebrates Pride Month with LGBTQIA+ Sportsfest

TIAONG, Quezon – The local government of Tiaong held a vibrant LGBTQIA+ Sportsfest at the Tiaong Town Plaza on Sunday, June 30, 2024, as part of their Pride Month celebration. The event was attended by nearly 200 LGBTQIA+ community members from various barangays.

Tiaong Mayor Vincent Arjay Mea emphasized the importance of recognizing the LGBTQIA+ community's contributions to the town's development. "This activity is a tribute and recognition of the important contribution of this sector to the continuous development of Tiaong," he said. "We are committed to fostering an inclusive environment where everyone feels valued and empowered to reach their full potential."



As a special guest, Mayor Mea invited "Unkabogable Star" and "It's Showtime" host Vice Ganda to share in the festivities. Vice Ganda expressed his gratitude for Mayor Mea's unwavering support and appreciation for the LGBTQIA+ community, stating, "Our country is truly blessed to have a Punong Bayan who wholeheartedly accepts and supports the LGBTQIA+ community in its activities and programs." He also emphasized the town's special place in his heart due to his friendship with the mayor, saying, "Tiaong holds a dear place in my heart because of Mayor Mea, who is a true friend."

Vice Ganda continued, "Events like this sportsfest are not only about competition, but also about celebrating our diversity and fostering unity within the LGBTQIA+ community and the entire town of Tiaong. It's a testament to the progress we've made, and it inspires us to continue advocating for equality and acceptance."

The Sportsfest featured a variety of sports competitions, including basketball, volleyball, boxing, and cheer dance. The event was graced by the presence of Executive Assistant Diego Mea, Vice Mayor Roderick Umali, Sangguniang Bayan Members, and Kons Maja Escueta, Committee Chair on Women, Children & Family. Mayor Mea's family, led by Mayora Mabet Mea, also actively participated and supported the sports activities.

The celebration concluded with Mayor Mea expressing his gratitude to all participants and increasing the prizes as a token of his appreciation. He remarked, "Seeing everyone come together and celebrate with such enthusiasm fills me with pride. This event is a testament to the strength and resilience of our community." The festivities were capped off with a shared beer, fostering camaraderie and community spirit among the attendees.

The Tiaong LGBTQIA+ Sportsfest was a testament to the town's commitment to inclusivity and support for the LGBTQIA+ community. The event not only showcased the community's athletic talents but also celebrated their valuable contributions to the town's progress.
