CANDELARIA, Quezon - The municipality of Candelaria recently concluded its momentous 145th founding anniversary, a vibrant celebration themed "Kultura ang umaakay, tradisyon ang bumubuhay sa bayang pinakamasaya, Candelaria!" Held from July 29th to August 2nd, the festivities paid homage to the town's rich history and cultural heritage while embracing progress and development.
The celebration commenced with a commemorative program that transported attendees back in time, showcasing the remarkable journey of Candelaria from its humble beginnings as a settlement in 1879 to the thriving municipality it is today. Historical exhibits and presentations highlighted the contributions of Candelaria's forefathers, their resilience, and their unwavering commitment to preserving the town's unique identity.
Kicking off the festivities was a community-wide Clean Up Drive spearheaded by MENRO, led by Ryan de Luna. This initiative saw the active participation of residents, students, and local organizations, who collectively gathered over 500 kilograms of waste and debris from public spaces and waterways. This display of environmental stewardship underscored Candelaria's commitment to sustainability and a greener future.
The heart of the celebration pulsed with a vibrant array of cultural events that resonated with attendees of all ages. Traditional dances like the Pantomina and Kuratsa, performed with grace and passion, enchanted audiences, while the soul-stirring melodies of local folk songs filled the air.
Art enthusiasts were treated to a visual feast at the art exhibits, where local artists showcased their creativity through paintings, sculptures, and handicrafts inspired by Candelaria's natural beauty and cultural heritage. Culinary connoisseurs delighted in the gastronomic journey offered by the culinary showcases, featuring delectable local specialties like the binutong (a traditional rice cake) and an assortment of mouthwatering seafood dishes that reflected the town's coastal charm.
The theme "Kultura ang umaakay, tradisyon ang bumubuhay sa bayang pinakamasaya, Candelaria!" resonated throughout the celebration, emphasizing the delicate balance between preserving cultural heritage and embracing progress.
The festivities served as a platform to showcase the town's rich traditions while also exploring innovative ways to integrate them into modern life. Thought-provoking seminars and workshops delved into the significance of cultural preservation and its role in shaping Candelaria's future.
