Lucena City boosts back-to-school prep with city-wide school supply drive

LUCENA CITY, Quezon – Thousands of public school students across Lucena City recently received a welcome head start to their back-to-school preparations as the local government, led by Mayor Mark Don Victor Alcala, rolled out a comprehensive school supply distribution drive.

Mayor Alcala emphasized the city's commitment to education and encouraged students to strive for excellence. He also highlighted the importance of community support and pledged ongoing efforts to provide quality education for all.



"We believe that every student deserves the opportunity to succeed, and providing them with the necessary tools is a crucial step in that direction," said Mayor Alcala, emphasizing the importance of community collaboration in ensuring quality education for all.

The distribution drive, launched on August 1, saw active participation from city officials, including Vice Mayor Roderick "Dondon" Alcala and various City Councilors, who personally distributed newly designed bags filled with essential school supplies such as pencils, ballpoint pens, and notebooks.

The first day of the drive covered numerous schools across different districts, including North 1, 2 and 3, East 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 8 and 9, South 1 and 2, West IV, Barra, Talao-talao, Dalahican, CNHS, LDNHS, Bliss, and LCNHS-Mayao Crossing.

In addition to school supplies, the City Health Office, under the leadership of Dr. Jocelyn Chua, distributed Olyset Nets to protect students from mosquito-borne diseases, demonstrating the city's dedication to student health.

The initiative garnered strong support from the Department of Education (DepEd) Lucena, led by SDS Susan DL Oribiana, and various barangay officials, underscoring the collaborative effort to ensure a successful start to the academic year.

The distribution continued on August 2, reaching students in Mayao Kanluran, Mayao Parada, Mayao Castillo, Mayao Silangan, Domoit, Bocohan, Isabang, Ibabang Iyam, Ilayang Dupay, Gulang-gulang, and Lucena WEST 1, 2, and 3. Mayor Alcala, Vice Mayor Alcala, and City Councilors Wilbert Mckinly Noche, Patrick Norman Nadera, Benito Brizuela, Jr., and Elizabeth Sio were actively involved in the second day's efforts. On August 5, the focus shifted to schools in Barangay Ibabang Talim, Ilayang Talim, Salinas, and Ransohan.

By the end of the three-day distribution drive, a total of 60,271 school supplies had been successfully delivered to public school students from kindergarten to high school, setting the stage for a promising academic year in Lucena City.
