TAYABAS CITY, Quezon - The Rotary Club of Lucena City Maharlika (RCLCM), under the leadership of Charter President Albert Roces, is taking a bold step towards environmental stewardship by adopting the Dumacaa River on August 20, 2024 in Barangay Kanlurang Katigan, Tayabas City.

The river, once a vital source of livelihood and recreation for the community, has suffered from pollution and neglect in recent years. This transformative project, aptly named "Save Dumacaa River for Future Generations," reflects the club's dedication to preserving the environment and building a lasting legacy.

Charter President Albert Roces shared his enthusiasm for the project, stating, "We believe that it is our responsibility to protect our natural resources and ensure that future generations can enjoy a clean and healthy environment. The adoption of Dumacaa River is a testament to our commitment to making a real difference in our community."

He further emphasized, "This project is not just about cleaning up the river, it's about fostering a sense of ownership and responsibility among the community members. We want to create a sustainable model for environmental preservation that can be replicated in other areas."

Following the MOA signing, RCLCM members wasted no time in demonstrating their commitment. They immediately rolled up their sleeves and joined forces with the community to conduct an initial clean-up of the river, removing accumulated debris and pollutants.

The adoption, formalized through a three-year Memorandum of Understanding with the local government and community stakeholders, details a comprehensive plan to revitalize the river and its surrounding area.

The agreement outlines the club's responsibilities, including quarterly clean-ups, installation of trash cans and educational signage, and tree-planting initiatives. It also emphasizes community engagement and collaboration, ensuring that the project's benefits are sustainable and long-lasting.

RCLCM members will engage in quarterly clean-ups, install strategically placed trash cans and educational signage, and plant trees along the riverbank to create a thriving ecosystem.

Additionally, recognizing the interconnectedness of community well-being and environmental health, RCLCM will construct a public toilet and provide support to elderly residents in the area.

This significant project demonstrates RCLCM's commitment to making a tangible, positive difference in the community. It also serves as a powerful inspiration, encouraging others to join the crucial cause of environmental preservation.

The "Save Dumacaa River for Future Generations" initiative embodies the club's vision of a sustainable future where the beauty and health of our natural resources are protected for generations to enjoy.
