LUCENA CITY, Quezon - A newly completed 1.22-kilometer section of the Quezon Industrial Highway in Barangay Mayao Parada, Lucena City, is set to alleviate traffic congestion on key national roads. The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) confirmed the timely completion of the project, funded through the 2023 General Appropriations Act under the Convergence and Special Support Program-SIPAG-Access Roads and Bridges.
The P93.6 million road, which features a two-lane concrete pavement, drainage systems, and safety features such as road markings and signages, is expected to facilitate smoother access between the agri-industrial zones of Batangas and Quezon provinces. This will significantly reduce travel time and transportation costs, particularly benefiting the movement of agricultural products and industrial goods, thus boosting economic activity in the region.
Furthermore, the road is expected to significantly reduce traffic on major routes like Daang Maharlika, Manila South Road Old Route, Quezon Eco-Tourism Road, and Lucena-Dalahican Port Roads. This will provide relief to commuters and motorists, especially during peak hours and holidays.
Moreover, it will improve access for travelers and freight moving to the Mimaropa islands (Mindoro Occidental, Mindoro Oriental, Marinduque, Romblon, and Palawan) through the nearby Dalahican and Talao-Talao ports. This enhanced connectivity will promote trade opportunities, tourism, and economic development in the region.
DPWH-Quezon 2nd District information officer, engineer Evaresto C. Malones, stated in a phone interview, “This road will facilitate easier and faster access between the agri-industrial zones of Batangas province and the agricultural lands of Quezon province, thereby contributing to the overall progress and development of the Southern Tagalog region.”
He also added that additional road projects are slated for inauguration by the end of the year, further enhancing connectivity and easing traffic in the region. The DPWH remains committed to its mandate of providing quality infrastructure facilities to support the growing needs of the country.
