TAYABAS CITY, Quezon - Over 50 youth leaders from across Quezon Province gathered in Tayabas City from September 10th to 12th for a comprehensive training program on "Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (DRRM) and Climate Change Adaptation and Mitigation (CCAM) in Child Protection."
The event, held at the St. Jude Coop Hotel and Event Center, aimed to equip young people with the knowledge and skills to actively participate in disaster preparedness, response, and recovery efforts while safeguarding the well-being of children in their communities.
The first day of the training, attended by 56 participants from various towns, delved into the salient features of Republic Act (RA) 10821, also known as the Children’s Emergency Relief and Protection Act. Discussions centered on the formulation of comprehensive emergency programs for children and the creation of child-friendly spaces during crises.
The second day saw 46 participants further explore the provisions of RA 10821 and the formulation of the Comprehensive Emergency Program for Children (CEPC). Additionally, the training covered CEPC monitoring, evaluation, and reporting mechanisms, along with the establishment of child-friendly spaces for those affected by disasters.
The final day focused on disaster risk reduction and management and climate change adaptation and mitigation, specifically tailored to the needs of children. The discussion also delved into the importance of involving children in disaster preparedness and response efforts, emphasizing the need for their active participation in decision-making processes.
Assistant Provincial Social Welfare and Development Officer (PSWDO) Norliza Labitigan concluded the training by awarding Certificates of Appreciation to the participating Local Government Units (LGUs). The PSWDO and the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) spearheaded the event.
According to Norliza Labitigan, this training marks a significant step towards building a more resilient and prepared future generation in Quezon Province. The event also highlighted the importance of empowering children to become agents of change in their communities, equipping them with the knowledge and skills to respond effectively in times of crisis.
She also emphasized the need for continuous education and training to ensure that the youth are well-prepared to face any disaster or emergency situation. The training received positive feedback from the participants, who expressed their gratitude for the valuable insights and practical skills gained during the event.
