QUEZON, Quezon - Traffic crashes often result in severely damaged vehicles, making quick and effective rescue efforts crucial. In these situations, first responders play a critical role in saving lives. Their ability to rapidly assess the scene and provide vital medical attention can significantly impact the outcome for those injured.

To enhance these lifesaving skills, the local government unit recently partnered with the Quezon Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) to host an intensive five-day Crash Vehicle Extrication and Rescue Training (CVERT) program.

From October 7-11, experts guided participants through advanced techniques for managing crash scenes, including stabilizing vehicles, safely accessing trapped patients, and providing immediate medical care while extrication is underway.

Participants gained hands-on experience with modern rescue tools like hydraulic spreaders, cutters, and rams, used to effectively and safely free individuals from wrecked vehicles.

The training attracted a diverse group of participants, including MDRRMC personnel led by John Errol Sisperez, local government staff, representatives from various agencies, and barangay officials. The PDRRMO provided the trainers and oversaw the program, ensuring a high level of instruction.

"This collaborative training initiative is a testament to our commitment to providing our first responders with the best possible tools and training", said Sisperez. "By investing in their skills, we invest in the safety of our entire community.'

He emphasized the importance of continuous learning and improvement in emergency response, highlighting the need for ongoing training opportunities for all those involved in disaster risk reduction and management. Sisperez also expressed gratitude to the PDRRMO for their support and partnership in organizing the successful training program.

"CVERT training is crucial for community safety, especially in situations that demand swift action and effective response. By mastering these modern extrication techniques and equipment, participants are now better prepared to quickly and safely rescue victims from crashed vehicles."

On the other hand Mayor Juan Escolano expressed strong support for the initiative: 'Our administration is dedicated to ensuring the safety and well-being of all our citizens. This training is an investment in our community's resilience." he said.

"Equipping our first responders with these lifesaving skills is a top priority. This CVERT training ensures that our town is prepared to handle the unfortunate reality of road accidents with the highest level of professionalism and expertise." the Mayor added.
