JOMALIG, Quezon - Imagine stepping onto an island where time seems to slow down, where worries fade with the receding tide, and the only sounds are the gentle lapping of waves against pristine shores and the rustle of palm trees swaying in the tropical breeze. This is Jomalig, Quezon a hidden gem nestled within the Polillo Islands of the Philippines, a place where turquoise waters meet powdery white sand beaches, and the warmth of the local community rivals the sun's embrace.

But Jomalig is more than just a picturesque paradise; it's one of the stars of a new coffee table book by the Department of Tourism (DOT). The book, released today, is part of the "Love the Philippines" campaign and aims to showcase the country's diverse natural beauty and cultural heritage by highlighting lesser-known destinations.

"This coffee table book is a testament to the Philippines' captivating beauty, and it perfectly embodies the spirit of 'Love the Philippines'," says a DOT representative. "We aim to inspire travelers to explore beyond the usual tourist hotspots and discover hidden treasures like Jomalig, fostering a deeper appreciation for our country's diverse landscapes and cultural experiences."

This island paradise, located in the far eastern part of Quezon Province, is home to just 7,667 people, according to the 2020 census. Despite its small size, Jomalig offers a wealth of experiences for travelers seeking adventure, relaxation, or a unique cultural immersion.

Salibungot Beach, with its dramatic rock formations, is a photographer's dream and the perfect spot to witness a breathtaking sunset. Adventure seekers can explore the vibrant coral reefs and abundant marine life of Kanaway Beach, a haven for snorkeling and diving.

For a change of pace, visitors can venture to Little Batanes, a picturesque landscape with rolling hills and dramatic cliffs reminiscent of its namesake. And for those seeking pure relaxation, Alugway Beach, affectionately known as Little Boracay, offers powdery white sand and crystal-clear waters.

"Jomalig truly exemplifies the kind of sustainable tourism we champion," shares the DOT representative. "Its untouched beauty, coupled with the warm hospitality of its people, offers a unique and enriching experience for travelers. By featuring destinations like Jomalig, we hope to encourage responsible travel that benefits local communities and preserves their natural and cultural heritage."

"But Jomalig is more than just stunning scenery; it's also home to a rich cultural heritage. The island boasts historic landmarks like the Jomalig Church and vibrant festivals like the Jomalig Fiesta, held annually in April. Visitors can interact with the warm and welcoming locals, experiencing the unique charm of island life and learning about traditional crafts and customs." she added.

To capture the true spirit of these hidden gems, a DOT team embarked on a photographic expedition, their cameras capturing not just the stunning landscapes but also the essence of life in these idyllic locales. In Jomalig, they found a paradise waiting to be explored.

"Jomalig, with its pristine beaches and captivating landscapes, is a perfect example of the wonders waiting to be discovered," shares the DOT representative. "Through this coffee table book, we hope to inspire travelers to explore the Philippines with a deeper appreciation for its diverse cultures and natural wonders."

The DOT's coffee table book series serves as a testament to the department's commitment to promoting sustainable tourism and showcasing the Philippines as a premier travel destination. By highlighting lesser-known destinations like Jomalig, the DOT hopes to encourage responsible travel and contribute to the growth of local communities.

The book is expected to be released before the end of the year and will be available for purchase at any time. A portion of the proceeds will be dedicated to supporting community-based tourism initiatives and conservation efforts in the featured destinations.

The DOT Coffee Table Book Series is an initiative by the Department of Tourism to promote the diverse destinations and cultural heritage of the Philippines. Each edition features a curated selection of stunning photographs and captivating stories from different regions, offering readers a unique glimpse into the beauty and wonder of the country.
