LUCENA CITY – Quezon Governor Angelina "Doktora Helen" Tan officially announced her bid for re-election on Wednesday, October 3, 2024 filing her certificate of candidacy for the upcoming 2025 midterm elections. Joined by Vice Governor Anacleto Alcala III and a full slate of provincial board member candidates, Gov. Tan expressed her commitment to continue serving the province under the banner of her local party, "Stand Up Quezon."

"The strong start we've made in Quezon Province is just the beginning. We will continue to build on this foundation, ensuring that every Quezonian benefits from our 'HEALING' agenda. Our commitment to true and genuine service remains unwavering."  Gov. Tan stated.

"Our team is here – Stand Up Quezon. Our service will continue," Gov. Tan stated. "We hope for your continued support." she added.

This announcement came on the heels of her 2nd State of the Province Address (SOPA) delivered at the Quezon Convention Center, where she highlighted the achievements of her "HEALING" agenda. This agenda focuses on Health, Education, Agriculture, Livelihood, Infrastructure, Nature and Tourism, and Good Governance.

Gov. Tan, the first female governor of Quezon, emphasized her commitment to uplifting the province from its past struggles. "For a long time, we were left behind by other provinces in our region and were labeled the 'sick man of Calabarzon'," she acknowledged. "This is the reality we faced. That's why, in the past two years, we have strived to face the challenge of reviving and strengthening the 'sick man of Calabarzon'."

The "HEALING" agenda has been a transformative force in Quezon, bringing about positive change that resonates across every facet of life in the province. It's a testament to the power of focused governance, where strategic initiatives have yielded tangible improvements in the lives of its residents. This multi-faceted approach has addressed critical needs while laying the groundwork for a brighter future.

At the heart of the "HEALING" agenda lies a deep commitment to enhancing the health and well-being of every individual. Recognizing that access to quality healthcare is a fundamental right, the program has dramatically expanded healthcare services throughout the province. The establishment of the Primary Care Provider Network, with 770,000 registered residents, is a significant step towards ensuring that everyone has access to regular medical care.

Furthermore, the provision of free consultations and diagnostics to 39,000 individuals demonstrates a proactive approach to healthcare, emphasizing preventive care and early detection. This commitment to accessible healthcare is further underscored by the numerous medical missions conducted across the province, bringing free treatment and surgeries to over 136,000 people in need.

Beyond immediate medical interventions, the "HEALING" agenda has also addressed the critical issue of malnutrition, particularly among children. Through targeted nutrition programs and the provision of supplementary food, the province has successfully combatted child stunting, a significant achievement that reflects a dedication to nurturing the next generation.

Education, another cornerstone of the "HEALING" agenda, has received significant attention. The innovative "Tara Basa" program, designed to enhance reading skills among young learners, has already made a positive impact on 5,000 Grade 1 students. By fostering literacy at an early age, the program equips children with the foundational skills necessary for academic success and lifelong learning.

Recognizing that financial constraints should not hinder educational aspirations, the "HEALING" agenda has implemented a robust system of scholarships and financial aid. Over 40,000 students have benefited from this support, enabling them to pursue their educational goals without undue financial burden. This commitment to inclusive education is further exemplified by the provision of full scholarships to 46 students from the most economically disadvantaged families, ensuring that opportunities for higher education are available to all.

Beyond health and education, the "HEALING" agenda has championed progress in various other sectors. Agriculture, a vital component of the province's economy, has been strengthened through the distribution of essential resources to farmers and fisherfolk, empowering them to increase productivity and improve their livelihoods. The launch of diverse agri-enterprise programs has further diversified income sources, creating new opportunities for economic growth within the agricultural sector.

Livelihood creation has also been a key focus, with initiatives aimed at fostering employment and entrepreneurship. Job placement services have facilitated connections between job seekers and employers, while the "STAN Kabuhayan" program has provided valuable support and training to small business owners, enabling them to thrive in the competitive marketplace. The establishment of the Provincial Economic Development and Investment Promotion Office further underscores the commitment to attracting investment and stimulating economic activity, paving the way for a more prosperous future.

Gov. Tan also acknowledged the challenges that remain, including budget limitations. She highlighted her "Sariling Sikap Program" (SSP), a private initiative aimed at providing additional support to communities and individuals in need.

With a focus on continuing the progress achieved under her "HEALING" agenda, Gov. Tan expressed optimism for the future of Quezon. "We are on a journey towards a prosperous, healthy, and progressive province," she affirmed. "We are moving in a direction far from the past. With the help of our reforms and the implementation of policies and projects, the standard of living in the province of Quezon is gradually improving."
