BUENAVISTA, Quezon – Former Mayor Remedios Rivera and her son, incumbent Vice Mayor Alvin Ray Uri Rivera, are facing a graft complaint filed by current Mayor Reynaldo Rosilla over the alleged misappropriation of funds intended for a boardwalk project in Barangay Mabutag. This comes on the heels of an administrative case filed by members of the Sangguniang Bayan against the vice mayor for allegedly causing delays in public services.

The controversy centers around a boardwalk constructed in 2021. Documents reveal that one million pesos were allocated for the project, which was intended to be built near the LGU-owned lighthouse (Parola) in Barangay Mabutag. However, Mayor Rosilla alleges that former Mayor Rivera instead directed the construction of the boardwalk in front of Villa URivera, a beach resort owned by her son, the current vice mayor.

This alleged act is being considered a clear case of conflict of interest and misuse of public funds, prompting Mayor Rosilla to file the graft complaint. The case is expected to be a closely watched affair, with potential implications for the political landscape of Buenavista.

This developing story raises questions about transparency and accountability within the local government. Residents of Buenavista are now awaiting the legal proceedings and hoping for a swift resolution to the matter.
