TAGKAWAYAN, Quezon – Recognizing the critical need for a comprehensive disaster preparedness strategy, Tagkawayan Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (MDRRMC) Chairperson Mayor Carlo Eleazar spearheaded a 3-day contingency planning workshop for the council.

Held from September 24-27, 2024, the workshop brought together 33 key stakeholders, including department heads, Sangguniang Bayan members, police officers, NGO representatives, and business leaders, to enhance the municipality's ability to effectively respond to calamities.

According to the MDRRMO, the purpose of the workshop is to strengthen the capacity of local agencies in responding to disasters and helping their communities. Participants engaged in various activities such as hazard mapping, risk assessment, and simulation exercises to better prepare for potential emergencies.

The workshop provided crucial training on three core areas: understanding the roles of various agencies and organizations within response clusters to ensure coordinated action; learning the procedures for activating the Incident Command System for a unified response; and gaining insights into the efficient management and operation of the Emergency Operation Center (EOC) during emergencies.

To deepen understanding and practical application, the workshop incorporated exercises and simulations, allowing participants to apply their newfound knowledge in realistic scenarios. This hands-on approach ensured a deeper understanding of the concepts and fostered collaboration among stakeholders.

Mayor Eleazar expressed his confidence in the participants, stating, "The knowledge and skills gained by the participants are very important to improve preparedness and response strategies in disaster scenarios."

In the next few weeks, the participants are expected to complete the final version of the contingency plan, which will then be submitted to the Sangguniang Bayan for approval. They are also expected to thoroughly apply what they have learned and collaborate with other agencies to further improve disaster preparedness in Tagkawayan.

This collaborative effort will not only benefit the community but also strengthen relationships among stakeholders. Mayor Eleazar emphasized the importance of continuous training and coordination to ensure the safety and well-being of everyone in the municipality.
