LUCENA CITY, Quezon – The Quezon Tangerines solidified their dominance in the Maharlika Pilipinas Volleyball Association (MPVA) Season 1 with a resounding victory over the Caloocan Air Force on Saturday. Despite dropping the first set, the Tangerines roared back to claim a 23-25, 25-14, 25-21, 25-12 win at the Quezon Convention Center on October 12, 2024.
The dynamic duo of Rhea Densing and Mycah Go spearheaded Quezon's offensive onslaught. Densing delivered a stellar all-around performance with 21 points, including 17 kills and 3 blocks. Go was equally impressive, contributing 14 powerful kills. Their combined firepower proved too much for the Air Force defense to handle.
"We started slow, but Rhea and Mycah really stepped up in the second set," said Quezon coach Jerry Yee. "Their energy was contagious, and it ignited the whole team."
With the win, Quezon improved to an impressive 11-1 record, securing their position at the top of the league standings and a twice-to-beat advantage in the semifinals. They are set for a crucial matchup against the second-place Rizal St. Gerrard Charity Foundation Inc. (10-3) on Sunday.
In the earlier match, the Bacoor City Strikers overcame a tough challenge from the Negros Lady Blue Hawks, winning 25-20, 27-25, 25-23. Winnie Bedana led Bacoor with 12 attack points, while Cyrille Alemaniana added 10.
The Quezon Convention Center was buzzing with excitement as fans braved the afternoon drizzle to witness the high-octane volleyball action. The Tangerines, with their impressive performance and strong fan support, are emerging as clear favorites to take home the MPVA Season 1 championship.
