TAYABAS CITY, Quezon - Tayabas City recently honored its centenarians and senior citizens with a series of events, showcasing the community's commitment to their well-being and recognition of their contributions.
Two centenarians, Lola Rosario and Lola Rosing, were each presented with P100,000 in cash incentives from the national government through the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).
This fulfills the benefits granted to Filipino centenarians under Republic Act 10868, which also includes a letter of felicitation from President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and a plaque of recognition from their local government.
Mayor Lovely Reynoso-Pontioso, along with city councilors and officials from the City Social Welfare and Development Office, personally handed over the cash gifts to the centenarians. "We are grateful for their contributions to our community and want to ensure they are well taken care of," Mayor Pontioso stated, emphasizing the city's dedication to supporting its elderly residents.
The families of Lola Rosario and Lola Rosing expressed their gratitude for the financial aid, which will assist with medical expenses and other needs. They also received certificates signed by President Marcos Jr., congratulating them on their longevity.
These centenarians are among the 12 individuals across Quezon province who have been honored for reaching this remarkable milestone as of September 7, 2024.
In a separate event, the city celebrated Senior Citizens Day with a lively "Wild West" themed gathering at the Silungang Bayan. Senior citizens embraced the theme, sporting cowboy and cowgirl attire, and participated in various activities, including a "Best in Cowboy Attire" contest, Baylehan dancing, line dancing, Zumba, and enjoying food and drinks.
The event, organized by the Federation of Senior Citizens of Tayabas City (FSCT), was attended by members of the Sangguniang Panlungsod and special guests, demonstrating their support for the city's senior citizens.
