MULANAY, Quezon - Yesterday, October 12, 2024 renowned Japanese baseball pitcher Tsuyoshi Yoda is back in Barangay Santa Rosa, Mulanay, Quezon, holding his second baseball clinic in the community. His first visit, earlier this year on January 25, also brought him to this location, where he held a clinic for 40 eager young players.
Yoda isn't just here to teach baseball skills; he's here to build lasting relationships and inspire the next generation of athletes. He genuinely cares about the young people of Mulanay and sees a spark in them that he wants to nurture. This second clinic, with 60 enthusiastic youngsters, is a testament to his dedication to this community.
Mayor Aristotle "Aris" Aguirre revealed that he never had to ask Yoda to return; the baseball star had promised to come back and generously fulfilled that promise. "He saw the potential in our young players and the passion for baseball in our community," Mayor Aguirre explained. "He made a commitment to return, and true to his word, here he is again."
Yoda, known for his impressive career and iconic fastball, continued to share his passion and expertise with the next generation of Filipino baseball talent. He believes in the power of support and mentorship, citing the encouragement of his own friends as a key factor in his success. "They never let me give up on my dream," Yoda shared, "and now I want to do the same for these kids."
"I want them to know that baseball is about having fun first," Yoda emphasized. "That's the first step. If they enjoy the game, they'll be more likely to stick with it, and who knows, maybe one day they'll even become professionals. That's what I dream of for them."
"Of course," Yoda added, demonstrating a perfect throw, "they also need to know how to throw! Even if they've never played before, we'll cover the basics and they'll learn the proper techniques. These kids in Mulanay are quick learners; they seem to pick up the skills effortlessly."
"But it's important to remember that baseball is a journey, not a sprint," Yoda advised. "These young players shouldn't feel pressured to push themselves too hard, too fast. It's okay to rest when they're tired and to take breaks when they need them. Learning to listen to their bodies will help them in the long run."
"It's wonderful to be back in the Philippines, and especially in Mulanay," Yoda continued with enthusiasm. "I'm eager to reconnect with the community and these young players. Hopefully, I can share more of my baseball knowledge with them, and we'll have a great time."
Yoda's own baseball journey is truly inspiring. From his memorable 1990 debut to his remarkable pitching achievements, including a record-breaking 157 km/h fastball in Japan, he has consistently overcome challenges. Even after transitioning to coaching and commentary, his love for the game never wavered.
The Mulanay clinic transcends the fundamentals. It's about instilling the spirit of baseball, the dedication it requires, and the pure joy it offers. Yoda's return visit provides another unique opportunity for these young players—a chance to reconnect with a global icon, continue learning from his experiences, and further ignite their own baseball dreams.
In addition to the free training, Yoda generously provided the Mulanay Little League and Secondary Baseball Team with Mizuno baseball shoes, gloves, balls, and other equipment. Mayor Aguirre expressed his gratitude for Yoda's continued generosity, highlighting the positive impact the equipment and training will have on aspiring young players.
"This not only provides them with the necessary tools to improve their skills," Mayor Aguirre remarked, "but also instills a sense of pride and motivation to pursue their dreams." He expressed his hope that Yoda's continued support would inspire other athletes and organizations to contribute to local sports programs and nurture young talent in Mulanay.
"We now have skilled baseball coaches and athletes in Mulanay," Mayor Aguirre added. "We're committed to providing them with the resources they need to succeed, and that includes a long-term plan for their nutrition and development."
