LUCENA CITY, Quezon - Businessman and former Ilocos Sur Governor Luis "Chavit" Singson today, November 9, 2024 announced his senatorial campaign for the 2025 elections, highlighting his commitment to financial inclusion and transport modernization. Speaking at a press conference in SM City Lucena, Singson outlined his ambitious plans to empower Filipinos and drive economic growth.

Singson's flagship project, "Banko ng Masa," aims to address the staggering statistic that 77% of Filipinos lack bank accounts and 95% do not have debit or credit cards. His plan seeks to provide every Filipino aged 18 and above with access to a bank account and a credit card, including Visa cards tailored to specific localities.

"This is for the people," he stated. "I've been providing bank accounts and credit cards in Ilocos Sur, and I want to expand this nationwide. When people's money is in the bank, the economy benefits."

The "Banko ng Masa" initiative will also benefit Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) by reducing remittance fees, easing the financial burden on their families.

Meanwhile recognizing the need for a sustainable and efficient transport system, he also announced his plan to modernize public transportation by introducing state-of-the-art electric jeepneys (e-jeepneys).

A manufacturing plant in Batangas is set to begin operations in 2025, producing e-jeepneys designed to carry 28 passengers in air-conditioned comfort. These modern jeepneys will retain the iconic visual elements of traditional jeepneys while offering a significant upgrade in passenger experience and environmental impact.

Singson is committed to making these e-jeepneys accessible to drivers through a unique financing scheme with zero down payment, zero collateral, and no interest. This initiative aims to empower jeepney drivers while addressing air pollution and traffic congestion.

"My plan will not only help drivers earn more but also create a more sustainable and efficient transportation system for everyone," he asserted.
