LUCENA CITY, Quezon – The Lucena City Library is proving that even in today's digital age, libraries remain vital centers for learning and community engagement. As part of the nationwide celebration of the 34th Library and Information Services (LIS) Month and the 90th National Book Week, the library launched "Hatid Kwento para Kina Nene at Totoy," an outreach program designed to empower young minds through literacy and technology.
Thirty daycare students from Barangay 3 Child Development Center were treated to a morning of storytelling, art coloring, and book giving. The activity, a collaboration between the library and teachers from the Child Development Center, aimed to instill a love of reading among young children and highlight the evolving role of libraries in fostering literacy and digital literacy.
Librarians and volunteers shared engaging stories, sparking the children's imaginations and creativity. The young participants also enjoyed coloring activities related to the stories, further enhancing their comprehension and artistic expression. Each child received a book to take home, encouraging them to continue their reading journey.
"We believe that nurturing a love for reading at an early age is crucial for developing a strong foundation for future learning," says Alyssa Marie Paral - Ranas of Lucena City Library. "Through 'Hatid Kwento,' we hope to inspire these young minds to become lifelong readers and library users."

"Outreach programs like this allow us to connect with the community and ensure that everyone benefits from the diverse opportunities we offer."
"Hatid Kwento para Kina Nene at Totoy" is just one of the many activities lined up by the Lucena City Library for this month-long celebration. The library encourages everyone to visit and explore the vast resources available, emphasizing the vital role libraries play in community development and knowledge sharing.
This year's LIS Month theme, "LibVOCACY: Unity towards Inclusive and Empowered Libraries", highlights the evolving role of libraries in providing access to information and opportunities for all. The National Book Week celebration, with its theme of "Magbasa. Mangarap. Magdiwang", further emphasizes the importance of reading and literacy in nation-building.
