LCUENA CITY, Quezon - Lucena City's farmers and fishers, among the hardest hit by recent severe tropical storm that ravaged the Philippines, are receiving critical support as they work to rebuild their livelihoods and ensure food security for the city.

Recognizing the urgent need for support, Mayor Mark Alcala and City Agriculturist OIC Jyra Lumerano recently spearheaded a city-wide initiative this week, distributing essential agricultural inputs to help these communities recover and rebuild.

"Our farmers and fishers are the backbone of our community," Mayor Alcala stated at the distribution event. "The recent typhoons, particularly Severe Tropical Storm Kristine, brought unprecedented destruction to our crops and fishing grounds. This initiative is not just about providing aid; it's about rebuilding livelihoods and ensuring food security for our city."

The much-needed supplies included corn seeds, inorganic fertilizers, vegetable seeds, soil enhancers and conditioners, herbicides, and pesticides, all crucial for revitalizing the agricultural sector. Alcala emphasized the importance of utilizing these resources effectively. "We are committed to helping our farmers and fishers get back on their feet," he added.

City Councilor Americo Lacerna, along with several other council members, joined the initiative to express their solidarity with the farming and fishing communities. Lacerna underscored the vital role this support plays in aiding the sector's recovery and ensuring food security for Lucena City.

"This is not a one-time effort," Mayor Alcala emphasized in a separate statement. "We are committed to providing ongoing support, including training and resources, to ensure our agricultural sector not only recovers but thrives. We are investing in the future of Lucena City, and that future depends on the resilience and prosperity of our farmers and fishers."

The City Agriculturist Office has outlined a comprehensive plan to maximize the long-term impact of this initiative. This includes training sessions on modern farming techniques, pest management, and climate-resilient agriculture. Ongoing monitoring and assistance will also be provided to ensure the recipients' continued success.
