LUCENA CITY, Quezon – Quezon Provincial Police Office reported a peaceful Undas 2024 commemoration. Residents and travelers experienced a safe and orderly commemoration of All Saints' Day and All Souls' Day from October 30 to November 3. This positive outcome is notable as the province, along with other areas in the region, continues to grapple with the aftermath of recent tropical cyclones Kristine and Leon.
The success of the peaceful commemoration is attributed to the collaborative efforts of various agencies, including the Quezon Police, the Provincial Government Unit under Governor Angelina "Doktora Helen" Tan, the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG), and Local Government Units (LGUs).
QPPO Director, PCOL Ruben Lacuesta, expressed his gratitude to the various agencies involved in ensuring public safety during this period. He acknowledged the support of the Provincial Government Unit under Governor Angelina "Doktora Helen" Tan, the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG), Local Government Units (LGUs), force multipliers, and the police force.
"This success demonstrates our collective capability to safeguard our communities against those who intend to disrupt peace and order," said PD Lacuesta. "The Quezon Police remains committed to providing unwavering support to the public."
He emphasized the crucial role of community cooperation and inter-agency coordination in achieving this positive outcome. "Active community engagement and collaborative coordination are our most effective preventative measures against untoward incidents and casualties," he added.
To ensure a smooth and secure return for those traveling back from the provinces, PD Lacuesta confirmed that police presence will remain heightened at key transportation hubs. "We will continue to deploy personnel at bus terminals, airports, piers, and other transport terminals to assist commuters and maintain order," he stated.
PD Lacuesta also highlighted that the police were mindful of families wanting to enjoy the long weekend beyond cemetery visits. "We understand that Undas is also a time for families to spend leisure time together, such as in malls and other public places," he said. "Our deployments were strategically planned to ensure safety and order in these areas as well."
In addition to police presence, public awareness was prioritized through the display of safety and security protocols. Tarpaulins outlining the do's and don'ts within cemeteries were prominently displayed at major cemeteries throughout the city, further contributing to the peaceful observance.
PD Lacuesta further emphasized that despite the demands of Undas, police deployment continues to assist in military-led relief operations in the region and other areas affected by the recent typhoons. The Quezon police's commitment to public service extends beyond this period, and they are actively involved in providing aid and support to those affected by cyclones Kristine and Leon.
Furthermore, the province paid tribute to the police heroes who sacrificed their lives for the safety and independence of the motherland. Wreath-laying ceremonies and other commemorative events were held to honor their memory and selfless service.
