TAGKAWAYAN, Quezon - A pioneering wind energy project is set to transform Tagkawayan, Quezon, marking a significant step towards a sustainable energy future for the province. Pan Pacific Renewable Power Philippine Corporation (PPRPPC) has announced plans to harness the region's wind resources, potentially bringing economic growth and environmental benefits to the municipality.

Mayor Luis Oscar "Carlo" Eleazar's commitment to a sustainable future, evident in his early adoption of green energy solutions, has paved the way for this exciting development. His collaboration with Quezon Energy Farms Inc and Tagkawayan Renewable Power Corporation in February 2020 to explore a biomass gasification facility in the San Mandelcar region laid the groundwork for this latest advancement in renewable energy. Now, PPRPPC, a subsidiary of Philippine Geothermal Production Corporation (PGPC), is leading the charge.

PPRPPC has proposed a Wind Turbine Power Project in Barangay Maguibuay. Following a meeting with local officials on November 4, 2024, the company announced plans for a comprehensive study to assess the viability of harnessing wind energy in the area. This study will involve measuring wind resources and evaluating the feasibility of constructing windmills.

"We are excited to explore the potential of wind energy in Tagkawayan," said PPRPPC representative. "This project aligns with our commitment to renewable energy and could bring significant benefits to the community, including job creation, increased access to clean energy, and reduced reliance on fossil fuels."

Wind energy is a clean and sustainable energy source that can help reduce carbon emissions and combat climate change. This project is part of PGPC's broader efforts to explore renewable energy sources in the region, complementing their existing geothermal power exploration activities. PGPC is also involved in community engagement and consultation to ensure that local stakeholders are informed and involved in the development process.

This initiative reflects a growing trend among energy companies to diversify their energy portfolios and invest in renewable energy sources. "We welcome this initiative by PPRPPC," stated Mayor Eleazar. "This project has the potential to bring economic growth and address the increasing energy demands of our municipality in an environmentally sustainable way."

"Moreover, we are particularly interested in the potential for this project to create new jobs and opportunities for our residents," Eleazar added. Currently, the municipality relies heavily on traditional energy sources such as coal and natural gas, so this shift towards renewable energy is seen as a positive step towards a more sustainable future. This project offers a promising step towards a more sustainable and reliable energy future for Tagkawayan.

PPRPPC is committed to transparency and community engagement throughout the project development process. The company plans to conduct further consultations with residents and stakeholders to gather feedback and address any concerns. These consultations will include town hall meetings and online surveys to ensure that all voices are heard.

The study is expected to be completed by Q2 2025, after which PPRPPC will share the findings with the community and proceed with the next steps in the project's development. This initiative holds the promise of a cleaner, more prosperous future for Tagkawayan, powered by the very winds that shape its landscape.
