TAYABAS CITY, Quezon – Demonstrating a strong commitment to the health and development of its young people, the City of Tayabas held an Adolescent Sexual Reproductive Health (ASRH) training for thirty junior high school students and teachers on Thursday, November 7, 2024, at the New Tayabas City Hall.
The ASRH training, part of the 32nd National Children's Month celebration, aims to equip adolescents with the knowledge and skills to make informed decisions about their sexual and reproductive health.
This year's National Children's Month carries the powerful theme, "Learning is for the Future, Don't Exchange it for Momentary Pleasure." This message emphasizes the importance of prioritizing education and long-term goals.
It encourages young people to avoid impulsive actions that could jeopardize their future. The theme also highlights the importance of making informed decisions about sexual and reproductive health for well-being and success.
In line with this theme, the ASRH training will be followed by Infomercial Making, Poster Making, and Slogan Making contests at participating schools. These creative outlets will allow students from West Palale National High School, Luis Palad Integrated School, Dapdap Integrated School, and San Roque Parochial School to explore the theme further.
Students can express their understanding of responsible sexual behavior and communicate persuasive messages to their peers. Through these contests, students will not only enhance their creativity and critical thinking skills, but also contribute to promoting awareness and understanding of sexual and reproductive health among their peers.
Entries will be accepted until November 14, 2024, with winners receiving cash prizes and certificates. Mayor Lovely Reynoso-Pontioso extended her greetings to the participants through a representative. The program is a collaborative effort between the City Civil Registry Office and the City Social Welfare and Development Office.
The city also hosted a Gender Mainstreaming on Civil Registration seminar for solemnizing officers and midwives on November 7th. Fifteen solemnizing officers, including pastors and bishops, convened at Kamayan sa Palaisdaan in Barangay Dapdap. Twenty midwives attended the seminar at Nawawalan Paraiso Resort and Hotel in Barangay Camaysa.
This seminar was an initiative of the City Gender and Development Office in partnership with the City Civil Registry Office. Philippine Commission on Women-National GAD Resource Pool Member Rubi B. Brion and PSA Quezon Province Senior Statistical Specialist Margarita G. Cada served as resource speakers.
Topics covered included the concept of gender mainstreaming and the distinctions between sex and gender. The seminar also explored sex and gender roles, manifestations of gender bias, and the importance of civil registration.
Mayor Reynoso-Pontioso expressed her support for the seminar, led by GFPS-TWG Chairperson Rosario Bandelaria and Ma. Zarina A. Bagangan. This initiative aimed to equip local government staff with a better understanding of gender mainstreaming in civil registration.
