GENERAL NAKAR, Quezon - Through the efforts of local officials, General Nakar has strengthened its disaster response capabilities by conducting a two-day training program on Camp Coordination and Camp Management (CCCM). This initiative focuses on equipping residents with the necessary skills to manage evacuation centers effectively and ensure the safety and well-being of those displaced during emergencies.
The training, held December 16-17, 2024, at the MRJ Resort in Brgy. Catablingan, was spearheaded by the Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office (MSWDO), led by MSWDO Carmencita Suaverdez. "This training goes beyond logistics," Suaverdez emphasized. "It's about upholding the dignity and well-being of our constituents when they are most vulnerable. We want to ensure that even in the face of adversity, our people feel supported and respected."
Suaverdez added, "This training is an investment in our community's resilience. By empowering our residents with the knowledge and skills to manage evacuation centers effectively, we are fostering a culture of preparedness and self-reliance."
Recognizing the importance of strong leadership in disaster preparedness initiatives, Mayor Esee Ruzol expressed her full support for the training program and its objectives. He highlighted the municipality's commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of all residents, especially during times of crisis.
Mayor Ruzol stated, "The safety and well-being of our community is our top priority. This CCCM training reinforces our commitment to providing a safe and supportive environment for residents who may be displaced by a disaster."
"We believe that preparedness is key to mitigating the impact of any disaster. By investing in this training, we are investing in the safety and well-being of our community. We are equipping our residents with the tools and knowledge they need to respond effectively to emergencies." he added.
"This training is not just a one-time event," Mayor Ruzol continued. "It's part of our ongoing efforts to build a more resilient community. We are committed to providing our residents with the resources and support they need to prepare for, respond to, and recover from any disaster."
The training brought together a diverse group of participants, including personnel from the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO), the General Services Office (GSO), and the Municipal Information Office (MIO). Representatives from the Municipal Health Office (MHO), Barangay Captains, SK Chairpersons, and first responders from the Philippine National Police (PNP), Philippine Coast Guard (PCG), and Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) also participated.
Meanwhile, CCCM is a crucial aspect of humanitarian response during disasters that cause displacement. It involves establishing and managing safe and dignified evacuation centers, encompassing site planning, shelter, water and sanitation, and protection for vulnerable populations. This approach prioritizes coordination among aid organizations to optimize resources and avoid duplication of efforts.
The training emphasized community empowerment, encouraging evacuees to participate in managing their shelters and services. "We want to empower evacuees as much as possible," Suaverdez explained. "This training is not just about providing services; it's about creating a supportive environment where individuals and families can maintain their dignity and begin to recover. It's about giving them the tools to take an active role in their own recovery process."
The training covered a wide range of topics, from site selection for evacuation centers and establishing basic services to setting up communication systems and protecting vulnerable groups. Participants engaged in practical exercises and simulations to apply their new knowledge in realistic scenarios.
General Nakar's investment in CCCM training demonstrates a proactive approach to disaster risk reduction and management. This initiative aligns with national and international disaster response standards, aiming to minimize the impact of disasters and build more resilient communities.
