LUCENA CITY, Quezon - The Philippine Information Agency (PIA)'s Kapihan sa PIA Quezon celebrated its 8th anniversary on December 20, 2024, reaffirming its commitment to fostering open dialogue and collaboration between government officials, media practitioners, and the public.

For the past eight years, the program has served as a trusted platform for discussing critical issues, promoting transparency, and encouraging public engagement. This year's anniversary celebration, held at the Pacific Mall in Lucena City, brought together key figures from various sectors to reflect on the program's impact and chart a course for its continued success.

Information Communications Manager of PIA, Ruel Orinday, who recently took over the role from the retired Lito Giron, spoke about the legacy of the program. Orinday emphasized the program's consistent dedication to providing a platform for open dialogue and information dissemination, ensuring transparency and accountability within the government.

"This program has a long history of bringing people together to discuss important issues and promote transparency," said Orinday. He went on to thank the event's sponsors, including Pacific Lucena City Mall manager Elvie Avenido, Team Energy, Doc Kim Tan, and the Gemi Formaran, for their contributions to the celebration.

Orinday also expressed his gratitude to the media partners for their ongoing support. "Your participation in Kapihan allows us to freely disseminate information about the programs and activities of government agencies and the local government," Orinday remarked. "We recognize the vital role you play in keeping the public informed and engaged."

The event, hosted by Radyo Pilipinas personalities Tom Alvarez and Maine Odong, was attended by leaders from the business and media sectors. Among those present were Gemi Formaran, president of STANd UPPPP Quezon and MEDIA NETWORKS, and Bhaby de Castro, PIA Manager for Batangas.

Nimfa Estrellado, owner and publisher of the Sentinel Times, was also recognized for her publication's ongoing partnership with Kapihan sa PIA Quezon. Both Formaran and De Castro addressed the attendees, highlighting the importance of the program in fostering open communication and collaboration.

This aligns with the PIA's mission at the national level, which, according to the PIA website, is to "empower Filipinos through information." This mission is carried out through a variety of initiatives, including providing accessible information resources, conducting public information campaigns, and collaborating with media organizations.

The PIA actively uses social media platforms like Facebook to disseminate information and engage with the public, as evidenced by their official Facebook page, which has a significant following. A recent post on their page highlighted the agency's efforts to combat misinformation and promote media literacy, a key component in ensuring that the public has access to accurate and reliable information.

"As we celebrate another year of Kapihan sa PIA Quezon, let us remember its significance," Orinday concluded. "This platform serves as a bridge between the government and the people, fostering transparency and understanding. Through your continued support and participation, we can ensure that Kapihan remains a valuable avenue for communication and collaboration."

PIA Quezon remains committed to disseminating information about government programs and services to the residents of Quezon. This includes raising awareness about key issues like disaster preparedness and community development, in line with the PIA's mandate to provide information that empowers citizens and strengthens communities.

The program, now hosted by Ruel Orinday, airs every Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. on PIA's Facebook page.  It features government officials and community leaders discussing relevant topics and answering questions from the public.

As PIA's flagship program, it continues to be a vital tool for promoting good governance, fostering transparency, and strengthening partnerships for the betterment of the province. By facilitating these open dialogues, Kapihan sa PIA Quezon contributes to a more informed and engaged citizenry, which is essential for a healthy democracy.
