LUCENA CITY, Quezon – When the alarm bells ring, every second counts. Knowing how to react quickly and calmly can make all the difference in a fire emergency. That's why the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) is working hard to ensure that schools in Lucena City are prepared for any fire-related incident.

Putting this commitment into action, the Lucena City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (DRRMO) Fire Sub-Station, in partnership with the BFP, recently conducted a comprehensive Fire Safety Seminar and Fire Drill at Lucena West 1 Elementary School in Brgy. Ilayang Iyam. Led by SFO1 Jan Vincent R Alba, the initiative aimed to equip teachers and students with the necessary skills and knowledge to effectively respond to fire emergencies.

The seminar covered vital topics such as fire prevention, identifying fire hazards, proper use of fire extinguishers, and evacuation procedures. To ensure practical understanding, the DRRMO personnel provided hands-on demonstrations of fire extinguisher use, allowing both teachers and students to practice the PASS (Pull, Aim, Squeeze, Sweep) technique.

Following the seminar, participants took part in a fire drill simulating a real-life emergency scenario. This allowed them to practice their learned skills and familiarize themselves with evacuation routes. The drill included scenarios such as assisting injured individuals and using alternative escape routes.

The event was well-received by both teachers and students, who expressed their appreciation for the valuable training. School officials commended the DRRMO Fire Sub-Station and the BFP for their dedication to promoting fire safety awareness in the community.

Lucena West 1 Elementary School principal, Rowena Adormeo, expressed gratitude to the DRRMO team and the BFP for their comprehensive training. "We are committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of our students. This seminar and drill have significantly enhanced our emergency preparedness, and we are confident that our teachers and students are now better equipped to handle fire incidents," Adormeo stated.

The DRRMO Fire Sub-Station regularly conducts fire safety awareness campaigns in various schools and communities throughout Lucena City. These initiatives are part of a broader effort to reduce fire incidents and promote a culture of safety and preparedness among citizens. SFO1 Alba emphasized the importance of continued learning and practice, encouraging everyone to regularly review fire safety protocols and participate in drills to maintain preparedness.
