BUENAVISTA, Quezon – A major infrastructure project is in the works that promises to revolutionize agricultural transport in Buenavista, Quezon. The local government, with crucial support from the Department of Agriculture - Philippine Rural Development Project Regional Project Coordination Office - Calabarzon (DA-PRDP RPCO-4A), is pushing forward with a proposal for a new farm-to-market road (FMR) under the DA-PRDP Scale-Up program.

The DA-PRDP 4A, spearheaded by Regional Project Director Engr. Redelliza Gruezo, recently met with Mayor Reynaldo Rosilla Jr. and key LGU officials to provide technical assistance and ensure the proposed FMR meets all necessary requirements. Discussions focused on critical areas such as social and environmental safeguards, geotagging, governance, and economic feasibility. This collaborative approach ensures the project aligns with DA-PRDP Scale-Up guidelines and maximizes its positive impact on Buenavista's agricultural sector.

"We are fully committed to fulfilling all the requirements and seeing this project through to completion," stated Mayor Rosilla, expressing his appreciation for the DA-PRDP 4A's guidance. "This FMR will be a game-changer, providing our farmers and fisherfolk with significantly improved access to markets."

The proposed FMR is expected to dramatically reduce transport costs and travel time for farmers bringing their produce to market. This enhanced connectivity will also facilitate increased production and generate new income opportunities within the agricultural sector.

"This project represents a major investment in the future of our farmers and the overall economic development of Buenavista," added Mayor Rosilla. "Connecting our agricultural areas with key markets will not only enhance livelihoods but also stimulate growth across our municipality."

Active participation from key LGU figures, including Municipal Agriculturist Reynette Loayon, Municipal Engineer Alfonzo Zara III, OIC-Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Mitigation Officer Eric Grezula, and Economic Analyst Daniel Cañada, highlighted the strong local commitment to the project's success.

This FMR subproject is just one of many initiatives under the DA-PRDP Scale-Up program, a nationwide strategy aimed at revitalizing the Philippine agricultural sector. The program focuses on providing key infrastructure, strengthening value chains, and promoting climate-resilient agriculture. It builds upon the successes of the original DA-PRDP, which has already made significant strides in improving rural livelihoods and enhancing agricultural productivity across the country.

Through strategic investments in rural infrastructure and by fostering strong partnerships with local governments and communities, the DA-PRDP Scale-Up program is paving the way for a more prosperous and sustainable future for Filipino farmers and the nation as a whole. By empowering farmers and enhancing their access to markets and resources, the program contributes to food security, economic growth, and poverty reduction in the Philippines.
