TAYABAS CITY, Quezon - Colorum tricycle owners in the city should seriously consider having their franchise with the intensified campaign against those illegally operating public utility vehicles (PUVs), which will ensure they can operate legally and without fear of penalties. This is due to an intensified operation against colorum tricycles the city government will be conducting through its OCM-Traffic Operations Section.
Starting Saturday, February 1, 2025, and continuing throughout February, this initiative aims to enforce City Traffic Ordinance Number 21-27 and address the increasing number of unregistered tricycles operating within the city. This crackdown comes in response to the growing number of colorum tricycles, which has become a concern for local authorities.
The operation seeks to ensure all tricycle drivers comply with existing traffic rules and regulations. Authorities are particularly concerned about the rise in colorum tricycles, which operate without proper franchises and permits, undermining the city's efforts to regulate and manage public transportation effectively.
These unregistered vehicles not only violate local ordinances but also pose potential safety risks and create unfair competition for legitimate tricycle operators who have invested in proper permits and licenses. The city aims to create a more organized and regulated public transportation system for the benefit of both commuters and tricycle drivers.
Caught operating illegally, colorum tricycle drivers will face a fine of five thousand pesos (₱5,000.00) and the impoundment of their vehicles. The hefty fine is intended as a strong deterrent against operating without the necessary documentation. Impounding the vehicles will further ensure compliance and prevent colorum drivers from continuing their illegal operations.
City officials urge tricycle owners without franchises to immediately process their business permits and licenses at the Business Permit and Licensing Office (BPLO). This will not only prevent penalties but also ensure fair competition with legitimate tricycle drivers and operators who have valid franchises.
The city government emphasizes its commitment to serving its constituents and promoting progress in Tayabas. They encourage all tricycle drivers to cooperate with the new regulations and help create a safer and more orderly transportation system. The city believes this initiative will ultimately benefit the entire community by ensuring reliable and regulated public transportation.
