GUMACA, Quezon - Aiming to enhance the public market and boost local economic growth, the local government of Gumaca, led by Mayor Webster Litargo, convened a crucial meeting with the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) last Wednesday, January 15, underscoring the administration's commitment to improving the lives of its citizens.

Mayor Litargo stressed the importance of the project: "This isn't just about construction; it's about improving the lives of our vendors, providing better services, and boosting our local economy. We are committed to creating a modern and efficient market that will be a source of pride for Gumaca."

The meeting brought together municipal engineers, market administrators, and business representatives to foster a collaborative approach. This ensures the improved market addresses the needs of everyone involved, from vendors and customers to local businesses.

Discussions focused on the technical aspects, design, and implementation of the public market improvement project. Sustainability was a key concern, with plans to incorporate eco-friendly materials and practices.

"We envision a market that is not only functional but also aesthetically pleasing and environmentally sustainable," Mayor Litargo added. "We want to create a space that is both a place for commerce and a community gathering place—a vibrant hub for our town."

Municipal Engineer Irene Ubas and Public Market Head Ave Mar de Ramos joined the Mayor to delve into the specifics of the project. They highlighted the importance of creating a user-friendly and accessible market for all, with adequate parking, proper ventilation, and accessible pathways.

The revitalized market will enhance the shopping experience and serve as a catalyst for economic growth. By upgrading the market's infrastructure and facilities, the local government aims to create a more conducive environment for vendors and customers. This includes modern amenities such as clean restrooms, reliable water and electricity supplies, and improved waste management systems.

The DPWH anticipates the improved market will enhance the quality of life and contribute significantly to Gumaca's economic development. The project is expected to generate employment opportunities, attract new businesses, and revitalize the local economy.

Through this collaborative effort, the new public market is expected to become a thriving hub for businesses and commerce, ultimately contributing to the economic growth and development of the community. The project is a testament to the local government’s commitment to improving the lives of its citizens and fostering a more prosperous Gumaca.
