Quezon province is receiving a significant boost to its agricultural infrastructure with the approval of P1.21 billion in funding for three new farm-to-market roads. |
LUCENA CITY, Quezon – Over 33,700 individuals in Quezon province are set to benefit from P1.21 billion in funding for new agriculture infrastructure projects. The Department of Agriculture (DA) Calabarzon recently announced the approval of three farm-to-market roads (FMRs) under the Philippine Rural Development Project (PRDP) Scale-Up, designed to significantly enhance agricultural transport and boost rural economies.
The FMR projects will cover 10.58 km in San Francisco, 12.46 km in Catanauan (including two bridges), and 15.33 km in Mulanay (with one bridge). "These FMRs are not just roads," explained DA Calabarzon Regional Executive Director Fidel Libao, "They are pathways to progress, connecting our farmers to opportunities and bringing prosperity to their communities." The projects are expected to significantly improve the transport of agricultural goods, reduce travel time for residents, and lower transportation costs for farmers bringing their produce to market.
Libao emphasized the broad impact of these projects, stating, "These will help people improve their communities by providing access to basic resources, services, and opportunities." He added, "Investing in rural infrastructure is investing in the future of our nation. By supporting our farmers and providing them with the tools they need to succeed, we are ensuring food security and building a more resilient and prosperous Philippines."
The PRDP Scale-Up aims to strengthen the agricultural sector and improve the efficiency of the food supply chain, ultimately contributing to poverty reduction in the region. Local government units in Quezon have expressed their full support for the FMR projects and are committed to their successful implementation.
This latest investment highlights the government's commitment to enhancing agricultural productivity and rural development. The PRDP Scale-Up, a partnership between the DA and the World Bank, focuses on improving the connectivity, accessibility, and affordability of food in the market.
The program aims to address bottlenecks in the agricultural value chain, allowing farmers to increase their income and contribute to a more robust and resilient food system. This initiative is expected to have a lasting positive impact on the lives of Quezon residents, fostering economic growth and improving the quality of life in rural communities.
