LUCENA CITY, Quezon – The regional weekly newspaper, Sentinel Times, recently celebrated its 8th anniversary. Since its founding in 2016, the publication has become a trusted source for news and information in Quezon province and the Calabarzon region, fearlessly tackling critical issues, giving a voice to the voiceless, and holding those in power accountable.

Founded by publisher and owner Ma. Nimfa L. Estrellado, the Sentinel Times has championed developmental communication and the public's right to a free press. "It's been an incredible journey," says Estrellado. "There have been challenges, but our dedicated team has worked tirelessly to deliver accurate and timely news."

The Sentinel Times remains committed to unbiased reporting and serving as a vital resource for the community, earning respect by covering diverse topics relevant to the community, from local government and environmental issues to inspiring stories of resilience and community spirit.

"We strive to keep our readers informed and engaged," Estrellado adds. "Our goal is to contribute to the collective knowledge and understanding of our audience." The Sentinel Times demonstrates its corporate social responsibility through outreach programs and support for campus journalism.

Throughout 2023 and 2024, the Sentinel Times and its publisher received numerous accolades, a testament to its impactful journalism. These accolades include the International Golden Awards Philippines (IGAP) 2023, where Estrellado was named Outstanding Female Journalist and Publisher and Inspiring Youth Advocate of the Year; the Most Outstanding Female Journalist and Young Advocate of the Year award at the MELA Hinirang ng Southern Tagalog; and the Southern Tagalog Excellence in Leadership Award (STELA).

Building on this success, Estrellado's dedication was further recognized at the 9th Asia Pacific Luminare Awards on July 12, 2024, where she received the "Most Outstanding Local Journalist and Inspiring Youth Advocate of the Year" award. This recognition was echoed in October 2024 at the Gantimpalang Pilipino Awards.

The Sentinel Times actively engages in corporate social responsibility initiatives, including outreach programs that address critical social issues and support for campus journalism to foster the next generation of reporters. "We are truly humbled by the trust and support of our partners and readers," says Estrellado. "We thank the Lord for these blessings."

The Sentinel Times is proud to acknowledge its partners for their support, including Pacific Mall Lucena, Philippine Information Agency (PIA) Quezon, Nissan Philippines, Inc., and BIGO LIVE Philippines. Other key partners include Miss World Philippines Batangas, QNHS' Special Program in Journalism (SPJ), HALO HALO 2024 Mapúa Malayan Colleges Laguna, UPLB Paglaum, and PUP Junior Marketing Executives (JME).

The Sentinel Times has been recognized for its contributions to information dissemination and women's empowerment, exemplified by its recognition from the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) - Quezon for its commitment to delivering accurate and accessible information. The Sentinel Times was also acknowledged for its ongoing partnership with Kapihan sa PIA Quezon, a program dedicated to fostering open dialogue and collaboration.

In 2024, The Sentinel Times hosted the Women Summit with the theme "Empowered Women, Empower Women," providing a platform for women's leadership and empowerment. The summit featured inspiring talks and discussions from prominent women leaders in various fields, fostering a sense of community and inspiring attendees to become agents of change.

Looking ahead, the Sentinel Times remains dedicated to upholding the highest standards of journalism, empowering its readers with accurate and timely information, and serving as a catalyst for positive change in the community. The publication is excited to continue its partnership with QNHS' SPJ in 2025 through the Journofest Summit, a collaborative effort to nurture young talent and foster the next generation of journalists.
