TAYABAS CITY, Quezon - Three months before the upcoming national and local elections in May 2025, the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) conducted mock elections in the Atrium of the New Tayabas City Hall on January 27, 2025.
This exercise aimed to familiarize voters and local COMELEC personnel with the election process and address potential issues that may arise on election day. It also provided an opportunity for COMELEC to test its systems and procedures to ensure a smooth and efficient election process in 2025.
During the mock elections, participants were given a firsthand look at the Automated Counting Machines (ACMs) that will be used to count votes. COMELEC personnel demonstrated the use of the ACMs, allowing voters to understand how their votes will be processed.
"This exercise is a significant step towards ensuring a smooth and successful election," said COMELEC-Tayabas Election Officer Rhodora Gonzales. She expressed gratitude to all participants for contributing to the success of the mock election.
Gonzales also highlighted that the mock elections simulated the scenario in polling precincts, from training teachers to preparing the polling center and paraphernalia for election day, ensuring that everything is in place for a seamless voting process.
This initiative is part of COMELEC's nationwide effort to prepare for the 2025 elections. This includes voter education campaigns, ensuring accessibility for all voters, and implementing cybersecurity measures to protect the integrity of the electoral process.
In familiarizing voters with the procedures and technology and proactively addressing potential issues, COMELEC and the Tayabas City government are working together to ensure a fair and efficient election process in 2025.
