TIAONG, Quezon – The Tiaong Rural Health Unit (RHU) kicked off a free flu vaccination program today, January 9, for residents as part of a public health initiative to combat the spread of influenza. The vaccination program is open to individuals 18 years old and above, senior citizens, and adults with comorbidities, groups considered most vulnerable to the flu.
According to the Tiaong RHU, the vaccines will be administered from January 9 to 10 and January 13 to 17, between 8:00 AM and 5:00 PM. Due to limited supply, the vaccines will be provided on a first-come, first-served basis at the RHU facility located at Municipal Compound Poblacion III.
This initiative is in line with the Department of Health's (DOH) ongoing efforts to promote flu prevention across the country, particularly among high-risk populations. The DOH emphasizes the importance of annual flu vaccination as the virus constantly evolves.
Flu vaccines, while not providing complete immunity, significantly reduce the risk of severe illness, hospitalization, and complications arising from the flu, such as pneumonia. This is especially crucial for older adults and individuals with pre-existing health conditions like asthma, diabetes, or heart disease.
The RHU encourages all eligible residents to visit their facility to receive their free flu vaccine and protect themselves and their community against the flu this year. “We urge everyone who is eligible to take advantage of this free vaccination program,” said RHU. “Getting vaccinated is a simple yet crucial step in protecting yourself and those around you from the flu.”
In addition to getting vaccinated, the RHU also reminds residents to practice good hygiene habits such as frequent handwashing with soap and water, covering coughs and sneezes with a tissue or elbow, and staying home when sick to help prevent the spread of influenza and other respiratory illnesses. Residents are also advised to maintain a healthy lifestyle with a balanced diet, regular exercise, and enough sleep to boost their immune system.
