LUCENA CITY, Quezon - Two hundred sixty-nine students from Quezon National High School, Alabat Island National High School, and Talipan National High School recently embarked on their work immersion journey following a successful orientation conducted by the Provincial Public Employment Service Office (PESO).
The orientation, led by Genecille Aguirre, Assistant Department Head and PESO Manager, aimed to prepare students for their upcoming work immersion. Aguirre explained that the goal was to equip students with a clear understanding of their expected roles, responsibilities, and the operational procedures of their assigned offices or organizations.
It is said to be a prerequisite of the Department of Education's K to 12 Program under the Senior High School (SHS) curriculum, which is a crucial component of the K-12 reform in the Philippines. According to PESO, this program bridges the gap between classroom learning and the actual workplace, providing SHS students with the opportunity to apply their academic knowledge and skills in a real-world setting.
It is a key component of the K-12 curriculum that aims to provide students with practical experience in a real work environment. This exposure allows them to apply their classroom learning and develop essential skills for employment. It also allows students to explore different career paths and make informed decisions about their future.
The program emphasizes the development of practical skills, work ethics, and values that are essential for success in the chosen field. Students are deployed to various partner organizations, including government agencies, private companies, and even non-profit organizations, where they work under the supervision of experienced professionals. This hands-on experience allows them to gain valuable insights into the industry, develop their professional network, and build their resume.
PESO also emphasized the importance of the orientation in ensuring the students' success in their work immersion. The program is seen as a crucial step in helping students gain positive work experiences that will be beneficial for their future careers. The program is expected to continue with more students being given the opportunity to participate in future work immersion, fostering deeper appreciation of various sectors, including the agricultural sector, among the youth.
Throughout the training, the students were engaged in hands-on experiences in various operations. These practical exercises were complemented by lectures on fieldwork and bookkeeping, providing a well-rounded learning experience. The students also received certificates from the PESO in recognition of their successful immersion in the agency.
