CALAUAG, Quezon – Addressing the intertwined needs of agricultural support and accessible healthcare, the Provincial Government of Quezon, under the leadership of Governor Dr. Helen Tan, conducted a distribution of agricultural inputs for fishermen and farmers in Barangay Apad Lutao, Calauag, Quezon, on February 25.
The initiative comes amidst concerns regarding the competition faced by small-scale fishermen due to the amendments to the Fisheries Code of 1998 (RA 8550) and RA 10654. The recent Supreme Court ruling allowing commercial fishing vessels to operate within municipal waters (15 kilometers from the shoreline) has intensified this competition.
To support local fishermen and mitigate the potential negative impacts of the new regulations, the Provincial Government distributed Bottom Set Gill Nets #04 and Bottom Set Gill Nets #07. These specific types of gill nets were chosen to provide fishermen with effective tools for sustainable fishing practices within the allowed zones.
Farmers also received crucial support through the distribution of Ammosul Fertilizer, which enhances soil fertility and promotes robust crop growth. Additionally, the provision of plastic drums aids in water storage and efficient irrigation, particularly vital during the dry season. These initiatives help farmers maintain a consistent water supply and ensure healthy, productive yields.
In addition, assorted vegetable seeds, carefully selected for their adaptability to the local climate, were provided to diversify crop production and ensure food security within the community. This initiative encourages a wider range of agricultural products, contributing to a more balanced and sustainable food system for the residents of Calauag.
The Provincial Government also held a "Kalinga sa Mamamayan, Libreng Gamutan" Medical Mission in Brgy. Apad Lutao on February 25, led by Governor Angelina "Helen" Tan with the support of the Provincial Government, Vice Governor Anacleto "Third" Alcala, Cong. Keith Micah "Mike" Tan, Board Members Harold Butardo and Angelo Eduarte, and private doctors.
