TIAONG, Quezon - Residents of Barangays Ayusan 1 and Ayusan 2 in Tiaong, Quezon, have long faced challenges due to a river separating their communities. Access to essential services, markets, and even family has been hampered, making daily life difficult for residents.
Today, February 1, 2025, marked a new beginning by breaking ground for a new bridge that promises to significantly improve transportation and accessibility. The bridge will finally connect the two sides of the river, easing daily commutes and facilitating commerce.
This project will bring numerous benefits, including improved access for approximately 8,883 residents from Barangays Ayusan II, Tamisian, Bukal, and Bula to Tiaong Poblacion, reduced transport time for farm produce, improved access to tourism areas such as Tikub Lake, and eased access for delivering disaster relief interventions.
The 22-meter bridge, expected to be completed within five months, is being constructed with the help of the Provincial Engineering Office (PEO), led by Engr. Marichelle Ferrer. The 23 million peso budget, sourced from the general fund, will cover construction costs.
Representing Mayor Vincent Arjay Mea, Councilor Eula Lopez shared, "Since I was a child, I have witnessed the difficulties our residents face whenever heavy rains and typhoons make the river impassable. Governor Angelina 'Helen' Tan and Doc Kim immediately addressed this concern after we brought it to their attention."
Coun. Lopez also emphasized the project's importance and the efforts to secure funding, stating, "We are grateful to the local government, headed by Mayor Mea, and Governor Tan for prioritizing this project. We are committed to requesting projects that benefit our constituents."
Currently, residents of the two barangays are separated by a river, making travel between them difficult, especially during the rainy season. The new bridge will provide a safe and convenient passage for pedestrians, vehicles, and agricultural products, fostering closer ties between the communities and boosting economic activity.
In her speech, Governor Tan expressed her gratitude for the collaboration between the local government and the community. She emphasized the positive impact it will have on the region's economy and overall development.
"This bridge will not only make life easier for our constituents but also open up new opportunities for growth and prosperity," Governor Tan said, encouraging the community to continue working toward progress. "This bridge symbolizes the progress and development of Tiaong town, and it will serve as a testament to what we can achieve when we work together."
The bridge represents a significant step forward for the residents of Barangays Ayusan 1 and 2, promising improved quality of life, enhanced economic opportunities, a stronger sense of community, and a brighter future for generations to come. It stands as a symbol of progress and unity, connecting not just two sides of a river, but also the hopes and aspirations of an entire community.
