LOPEZ, Quezon – As part of its ongoing efforts to enhance employee benefits programs, the Local Government Unit (LGU) of Lopez, Quezon has recently launched "Fit & Smart Tuesday," a new initiative focused on promoting the health and well-being of its employees. This program, in line with Civil Service Commission guidelines, dedicates every Tuesday afternoon to physical activity for LGU staff.
Mayor Rachel Ubana has formalized the program through Office Order No. 002, Series of 2025, mandating a regular physical fitness period every Tuesday from 4:00 PM onwards. Employees are encouraged to participate in activities such as walking, dancing, or playing ball games at the Municipal Covered Court.
"This program reflects the LGU's commitment to creating a healthy and productive work environment," said Mayor Ubana. "By prioritizing physical fitness and wellness, we aim to boost employee morale, reduce stress, and enhance overall productivity. These efforts are expected to benefit individual employees and contribute to more effective public service for the community of Lopez."
The LGU recognizes that a healthy and happy workforce is essential for effective governance. Supporting employees' well-being is a priority, and "Fit & Smart Tuesday" is a tangible demonstration of that commitment, fostering a positive and supportive work environment.
Mayor Ubana continued, "We believe that a healthy workforce is a more effective workforce. We hope this program will inspire our employees to embrace a healthier lifestyle and cultivate a culture of wellness within the local government. With 'Fit & Smart Tuesday,' LGU Lopez demonstrates its dedication to its workforce's well-being and provides a positive example for other government agencies."
The "Fit & Smart Tuesday" program is consistent with Civil Service Commission Memorandum Circular No. 38, Series of 1992, which aims to implement a "Physical and Mental Fitness Program for Government Personnel," and MC No. 6, Series of 1995, which directs all agencies to incorporate "The Great Filipino Workout" into the National Physical Fitness and Sports Development Program for government employees.
Complementing the organized fitness activities is the "No Car Tuesday" initiative, which encourages employees to walk to and from work, further integrating physical activity into their daily commute. This initiative also aims to reduce traffic congestion and promote a greener environment.
