LUCENA CITY, Quezon - For improved traffic management and public transportation, Lucena City has recently opened the Lucena Public Market Central Terminal on CM Recto Street in Barangay 9, offering residents a more organized and efficient way to access public transport.

This new terminal is the result of collaborative efforts between the city government and tricycle driver associations (TODAs), specifically the Pederasyon ng mga Magtatricycle ng Boom Lucena (PMBL), aimed at easing traffic congestion, particularly around the Lucena City Public Market.

The opening ceremony was led by Criselda David, Officer-in-Charge of the Tricycle Franchising and Regulatory Office (TFRO), along with Rogelio Traqueña, and Enrico Sales, head of the PMBL. Toda members also participated.

This initiative stemmed from discussions led by City Administrator Anacleto Alcala Jr., focusing on alleviating the traffic situation, especially near the market. The discussions covered a range of topics, including the volume of tricycles operating in the area, the lack of designated pick-up and drop-off points, and the impact of street vendors on traffic flow.

The new terminal introduces a more organized passenger pick-up system, including designated signage at clearly marked pick-up points. This system prioritizes senior citizens, PWDs, pregnant women, and passengers with heavy loads. Prior to the opening, members of the PMBL, worked with the City General Services Office and City Engineering to prepare the site in Barangay 9, clearing the area for construction.

Coinciding with the terminal's launch, the Lucena City Police and the Traffic Management Section conducted a clearing operation on CM Recto Street, removing obstructions such as illegally parked vehicles. This coordinated effort was designed to optimize traffic conditions around the new terminal.

Lucena City Mayor Mark Alcala and Vice Mayor Roderick "Dondon" Alcala strongly support the new terminal and its goals. "This terminal is a significant step forward for Lucena City," Mayor Alcala stated. "It will not only ease traffic congestion but also provide a more convenient and organized transportation system."

Mayor Alcala emphasized that the project reflects the city's commitment to progress and development, highlighting the tangible benefits it will bring to the community. He pointed out that improved traffic flow and a more organized transport system will make daily commutes easier for residents, while also creating a more welcoming environment for visitors.

Enrico Sales, leader of the tricycle federation, stated, "This project is a testament to the city's commitment to improving the lives of its citizens. We are confident that this new terminal will make a significant difference in reducing traffic congestion and making our city a more pleasant place to live and work." He also emphasized the importance of ongoing collaboration between the tricycle drivers and the city government.

"The establishment of this central tricycle terminal directly responds to the need for improved traffic management in Lucena City. It is hoped that this initiative will significantly contribute to easing traffic congestion and creating a more efficient transportation system for residents and visitors. The city government, under Mayor Alcala and Vice Mayor Alcala, is also pursuing other traffic solutions, such as improvements to public transportation and the promotion of alternative transportation methods." he added.
