LUCENA CITY, Quezon - To ensure the continued safety and peace within its jurisdiction, the Provincial Peace and Order Council (PPOC) held its 1st Quarter Meeting for 2025 on Monday, March 3rd, at the 3rd floor of the Capitol Building in Lucena City. Governor Dr. Helen Tan led the meeting, bringing together various provincial government offices and agencies responsible for security and stability.
During the meeting, the Special Action Committee on Anti-Criminality, comprised of the Quezon Police Provincial Office (QPPO) and the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) Quezon, presented their accomplishment report for 2024, detailing criminal statistics and updates on programs combating illegal activities like drugs and gambling.
The committee emphasized the importance of community involvement in curbing these issues and highlighted successful operations conducted in the past year, specifically noting a significant decrease in drug-related incidents in several barangays due to intensified community outreach programs. The committee also shared data on the apprehension of high-value drug targets, showcasing the effectiveness of their intelligence-driven operations.
Updates on the insurgency situation were provided by the 201st and 202nd Infantry Brigades. They outlined current threats and ongoing strategies for maintaining peace and security in remote areas. Collaborative efforts with local communities to address the root causes of insurgency were also discussed, focusing on livelihood programs and infrastructure development in conflict-affected areas.
The brigades reported a sustained trend of decreasing armed encounters and an increase in rebel returnees, attributing this to their holistic approach that combines military operations with socio-economic interventions.
The Special Action Committee on Public Safety then presented reports on road crash statistics, intervention status, fire incidence statistics, and the progress of infrastructure projects under the Peace and Order Council. The committee stressed the need for enhanced road safety measures and improved fire prevention protocols, particularly in densely populated areas.
Progress on the building of new barangay outposts and other security infrastructure, including the installation of CCTV systems in strategic locations, was detailed. Plans to conduct regular fire safety drills in schools and public establishments were also shared.
The meeting concluded with discussions on proposed resolutions aimed at further enhancing security and safety throughout the province, demonstrating the council’s commitment to the well-being of its residents through proactive measures and interagency collaboration.
Governor Tan reiterated the importance of continuous dialogue and cooperation among all stakeholders to maintain a peaceful and prosperous province, emphasizing the need for a unified approach to address emerging security challenges. She also announced the allocation of additional funds for the implementation of the approved resolutions, highlighting the provincial government’s commitment to prioritizing peace and order.
