LUCENA CITY, Quezon - A recent significant push for early kidney disease detection was the focus of Quezon Province's participation in the World Kidney Day 2025 celebration at the National Kidney and Transplant Institute (NKTI). The province highlighted its expanded Urine Albumin-to-Creatinine Ratio (UACR) testing program, designed to identify potential kidney issues in residents before they progress.
Governor Angelina "Helen" Tan led the province’s participation, emphasizing Quezon Province's dedication to advancing kidney disease prevention and care. The province’s UACR testing initiative, which has already screened over 20,000 residents, aims to proactively address kidney health by detecting early signs of damage, allowing for timely intervention and potentially preventing serious complications.
“It is important to have Institutions that give very specialized care to citizens with kidney problems,” Governor Tan stated. As a keynote speaker, she commended NKTI as a key referral center for the Provincial Government of Quezon, praising its commitment to delivering high-quality services to residents.
Quezon Province also reinforced its strong partnership with NKTI, acknowledging the institute's critical role as a referral center for residents requiring specialized kidney care. This collaboration ensures that patients have access to advanced treatment and expertise when needed.
The governor reaffirmed the Provincial Government's ongoing commitment to strengthening initiatives centered on the prevention, diagnosis, rehabilitation, and treatment of kidney diseases, "In our participation in World Kidney Day, we continue to promote kidney health. We are very grateful to NKTI as our referral center for providing immediate health services to our fellow citizens," said Governor Tan.
World Kidney Day, observed annually on the second Thursday of March, is a global health awareness campaign focused on the importance of kidneys and reducing the frequency and impact of kidney disease and its associated health problems worldwide. In 2025, the campaign emphasized early detection and preventive measures, aligning with Quezon Province’s expanded screening initiatives.
The global event encouraged governments, healthcare professionals, and individuals to prioritize kidney health through education, screening, and access to care. This led to a measurable increase in public awareness of chronic kidney disease risk factors, as documented by national health surveys in participating nations.
The event underscored the urgent need for expanded initiatives to address the growing incidence of kidney disease and enhance access to healthcare services. Governor Tan's participation demonstrates Quezon Province's commitment to its citizens' kidney health, highlighting the province's proactive approach to safeguarding the kidney health of its residents.
