Volleyball tournament participants, a total of 83 women, competed fiercely at the Silungang Bayan of Tayabas, showcasing remarkable athleticism and teamwork. (Tayabas City CICRO)






TAYABAS CITY, Quezon - Sport has the power to transform lives and inspire change; however, many women and girls worldwide still face obstacles that prevent their participation. Recently, Tayabas City launched its "Women in Sports" program, showcasing the athletic prowess of local women. The event featured volleyball, 3x3 basketball, and kickball competitions, drawing spirited involvement from Tayabas City women.

An energetic Zumba session kicked off the program. Over 200 participants registered, highlighting the city's strong interest in women's sports. Mayor Maria Lourdes "Lovely" Reynoso-Pontioso opened the ceremony, voicing her unwavering support for Tayabas City's female athletes.



"This program stands as a clear demonstration of our city's commitment to empowering women through sports," Mayor Reynoso-Pontioso declared. During her address, Mayor Reynoso-Pontioso emphasized the vital role of women's participation in athletics.

"Sports offer unparalleled opportunities for women to cultivate confidence, leadership, and collaborative skills,championing women's sports is an investment directly in the prosperity of our community." she added.

The volleyball tournament stood out as a significant highlight of the event, showcasing the remarkable athleticism of 83 women who competed with unwavering determination. These intense volleyball games unfolded at the Silungang Bayan of Tayabas, providing a central stage for the players' skill and competitive spirit.

Team Labitigan emerged as champions in the 3x3 Basketball tournament, with Team Alpay, Team Lacorte, and Team Paladian securing the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd runner-up positions, respectively. In the Kickball competition, Team Ibabang Palale claimed the championship title, followed by Mateners, Team Lakawan, and Team Quesada as the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd runner-ups.

Twelve teams competed in the 3x3 Women’s Basketball at the Dapdap Covered Court, while eight teams battled it out in Kickball at Luis Palad Integrated High School. All winning teams and individual awardees received trophies, cash prizes, and medals.

Mayor Lovely Reynoso-Pontioso supported the Women in Sports event, which was organized by the Physical Fitness and Sport Development Office under PFSDO Sarah Zagala, in celebration of National Women’s Month 2025. This 'Women in Sports' program aimed to empower women through sports and foster a spirit of healthy competition within the community.
