LUCENA CITY, Quezon – Already prepared to ensure public safety and security during the observance of Holy Week, Police Colonel (PCOL) Ruben Lacuesta, Provincial Director of the Quezon Police Provincial Office (QPPO), has ramped up security measures across the province in anticipation of increased travel and tourism during the religious holiday.
To bolster security efforts, thousands of uniformed personnel will be strategically deployed across key locations in Quezon province while police stations in different towns are also on high alert. These areas include churches, transportation hubs and terminals, major roads, commercial areas, border control points, law enforcement checkpoints and other areas where people will gather.
PCOL Lacuesta personally led thorough inspections of Strategic Security Control Points (SSCPs), Border Control Points (BCPs), and strategically located Police Assistance Desks (PADs) on Tuesday April 15, 2025. These inspections aimed to verify the operational readiness of police personnel and the effectiveness of security protocols designed to safeguard residents and visitors.
In a parallel effort focused on ensuring safe travel during the upcoming religious observances, the Quezon PPO, under PCOL Lacuesta’s command, implemented OPLAN HARABAS: "Ligtas Byahe, Semana Santa 2025". A surprise drug testing operation targeting public utility vehicle (PUV) drivers was also conducted on April 15, 2025, at key transport terminals throughout Quezon.
The initiative, carried out in close coordination with the Land Transportation Office (LTO) and the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA), was directly monitored by PCOL Lacuesta. “The safety of our commuters is our top priority. Through these surprise drug tests, we want to ensure that those at the wheel are fit to drive and not a danger to the riding public,” emphasized PCOL Lacuesta regarding the anti-drug operation.
He assured the public that such operations would continue to maintain road safety and peace within the province, urging drivers to be responsible and adhere to traffic laws. During the inspection of security installations, PCOL Lacuesta stressed the importance of high police visibility, courteous public interaction, and strict adherence to legal procedures at all checkpoints.
“As we welcome both residents and visitors during the summer season, it is our duty to provide a safe and secure environment for everyone,” PCOL Lacuesta stated. “The presence of our police checkpoints not only deters criminal activities but also reinforces the community’s trust in our commitment to public safety,” he added.
The QPPO’s security preparations also extend to key tourist destinations across Quezon, anticipating a surge in visitors during this summer season. Ensuring adequate police presence and accessible assistance points at these locations is a priority.
PCOL Lacuesta called upon the public to remain vigilant and to cooperate fully with law enforcement authorities, particularly in areas with high foot traffic. The Quezon PPO’s multi-pronged approach, combining enhanced security measures with initiatives focused on road safety, underscores their commitment to ensuring a peaceful and secure environment for everyone in the province during this busy period.
